Ratings & Reviews+

LEGO® Technic - Technic Ultimative (42056) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 81.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Massive Beauty" scale (1/8) If you are a LEGO technic fan, this set will be an ultimate experience for you. If you want to maximize your enjoyment, you have to connect a power function to see the gear box action. If you correct the instruction on page 193 on the steps 267 & 269, you will be able to see the 4 speed change in a sequence from 1 (slow ) to 4 (fast). The neutral and reverse will work the same. I played with the chassis for a full day before I made the body. The final product is a "Massive Beauty" which it hides all the engineering functions in it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Porsche 911 Just finished the Porsche 911GT3 and enjoyed building it very much. Without a doubt the best presentation I have seen from Lego. The packaging was superb. I felt like I was opening the components of a very expensive computer or stereo system. The story in the instruction book was also great. Very interesting to see how Lego engineers and Porsche engineers worked together to get to the final product. My only disappointment for the price was that is was not powered in any way. I didn't understand why it came with all the gears and transmission when there is not an option to run it with a motor/power. For me building the drive train and transmission and actually seeing it work is the best part of the build. This is why I like the Technic theme. Based on the above I gave it 4 stars. My favorites to date are the Arcos 3245 and the Volvo front loader with remote control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great build The kit is beautiful. From the packaging to the instructions, I completely love the way this was set up. I hope Lego does more like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great build, the paddle shifting was genuinely new I typically buy all the new Technic sets and finally got around to this set. Physically, it's only a bit larger than the 24 Hour Race Car ( which, don't get me wrong, is a great value set. But the level of detail in this set is significant in that there's more than twice the number of pieces for approximately the same size. But most importantly, this set introduces two really cool concepts that I had personally never had the fun to experience. First, it has a shifter in the center (like most cars) but only has forward, neutral, and reverse. The mechanism for switching between forward and reverse was pretty satisfying. But far more interesting was the paddle shifter, which, each time its depressed, increments or decrements the gear ratio a quarter-turn at a time. In fact, even after building it, I'm still not sure how it works. :) I'm going to have to disasssemble it and rebuild it to fully appreciate the mechanic. In the end, it's a gorgeous model, and the level of curvaceous detail is impressive for a lego set. End-to-end a really enjoyable build and I highly recommend it to any fan of the Technic theme.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed Feelings This is a challenging build, and I enjoyed the build and the special packaging - the packaging is amazing in of itself and I don't want to throw it away. The build instruction book is also amazing and should be displayed with the model. However, there are features in this build that I'm sure someone spent a lot of time designing but have been buried. The double-clutch, trigger-controlled transmission and the entire working drivetrain end up completely concealed. The build should have included one or more electric motors, a battery pack and an IR controller like I've seen on YouTube so that the builder can show off the complex drivetrain and drive the model around. I'll go buy the additional parts so that I can show off the model's hidden features. I'm also a bit turned off by the "gappy" body design. It's as if the chassis out-grew the Lego body design, leading to unsightly gaps all over. There are holes outboard of the tail lights that should have been covered or filled. I have all three 10th scale Ferraris, and their Lego body designs are more continuous and attractive than this model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Odd things and an important message to designers. This is one MEAN technic set. I would first like to say that you should only buy this if you are confident in your ability with lego liftarm. The build is far from perfect, but for what it is- its great. There are a few small things that go unsaid or need fixing. No.1 This is common sense, but make sure that you align the steering cog (the one that drives the sliding gear so that its 90 degres, otherwise your steering wheel will not be level. No.2 The structure of the porche is strong exept three areas. Firstly, The space around the bonnet is thick and the dark areas under the lights need some attention. I feel the rear end of the car is far more advanced than the front because of that. The brand new wheel arches lead into the lights seamlessly, however at the rear of them there is an empty void. On the left side there is a circular detail piece, on the right it is completely empty. I feel some 45' pieces would do justice here. The rear of the car is great, if i was being picky i would say the angled pieces are a little gappy and flimsy but apart from that everythig is above board. This brings me to my second point. I feel with this car a new line has been crossed by lego. The ambition of this car is clear and as time progresses- things progress, that's how products work. I feel however with this set the limits were really pushed on what could be done with the materials given. I feel it is time to add Metal 'stress eleviating' axle bars to the piece inventory and also metal cogs. The strain of the gearbox is crazy in this set- as great as it is. The axles are twisting which is a common problem, materials all give in at certain points. If you built a wall high enough eventually it would fall under its own weight. Please- perhaps for the next car, bump up the price another 50, add some metal components and complete the panelling. The rubber hose pieces are also EXTREMELY low friction when inside the blue stud snaps. Apart from that it's wonderful. I really like how the steering was real this time around- with all my other sets i have to design a 3 point steering system which still has the 'hand of god' steering but also turns the steering wheel. A fine adition to my collection.
