Ratings & Reviews+

LG 55" 4K UHD Smart LED TV with webOS - 55UH7700 is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from bright picture we have had the TV almost a month and have been very impressed with how sharp and bright the picture is. the best thing is that even when watching a show not broadcast in 4K,there is a lot of depth to the picture.we had the geek squad set up and program the set. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value - great price, good performance We were ready to up-size from a 42" plasma (from ca. 2006) and to upgrade to 4K. I wanted to be sure to get 2016-model 4K features (like HDR support) and acceptable "smart" features -- including Netflix 4K streaming direct on the TV -- and LG delivers a great overall package at a very good price point for 2016 models. The only real shortcomings are that black levels aren't amazing and I don't love the "magic" pointer-style remote. With minimal adjustment, I have a well-calibrated, larger screen that shows the increased detail. It feels like a proper upgrade, just as I'd hoped. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features; crisp picture and nice OS Love the OS. Very easy setup. Picture is great except the black could be blacker. Sound is decent. Streaming is flawless. Would recommend. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very pleased Have had a few weeks now and am happy with this tv. This is our first HD tv and while the blacks are not as dark as I'd like (especially in a dark room) it's so much better than our last tv! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vivid color, easy to operate We've had our 55UH7700 for about two weeks now, and so far are really enjoying it. Although it supports 4K super UHD content we haven't really had the opportunity to consume content like that (except for a few YouTube videos that were sensational, especially one in Russian about cats and cat toys); most of what we have seen is digitally broadcast HD content, Netflix and Amazon, and standard definition DVDs played on our computer. The TV "upscales" these media and does a beautiful job of it. Some of the pictures almost look like they're in 3D (they're not, but they have a life-like quality). We're no audiophiles, but we think the sound is great. It may help that the sound is produced by the Harmann-Kardon brand - how can you go wrong there? Dialog stands out so it is not overwhelmed by music backgrounds. The WebOS interface is great. Using the smart remote we can display all the "apps" and select the one we want to use. We have moved the ones we actually use to the left, and pushed the other ones to the right. We actually use Live TV, Netflix, Amazon, HDMI1 (computer, where we have DVR software and a DVD player), HDMI2 (Roku, needed for Sling TV). We've made occasional use of the Guide software and we used Multi-view once. The interface is nice because it continues to show video and play audio for the selected programming source while you browse the guide or choose other sources. I have a few criticisms. 1) As far as I can determine, previous versions of WebOS TV had a DVR app, called Time Travel. I was under the impression that this was available on WebOS 3, and so was the Best Buy salesperson who sold us the TV. I was disappointed to find out that no such app is present. I wonder if TV networks leaned on LG to remove that feature? Since a TV scheduler app IS present, one could use that app to schedule recordings, and then record programs to a connected USB hard drive, and then play back the recordings at will (skipping commercials). As it happens the tv scheduler app is used solely to schedule tv programs, so that the TV turns on automatically when the program is available. It does not attempt to record the show. So we are using a TV tuner on our wifi network and TV recording software on our computer to record off-the-air programs. I was hoping to drop that part of our entertainment system and rely on recordings on the TV, but no dice. 2) Sling and LG announced sometime last year that a Sling TV app would be available for WebOS, and this has not happened yet. If and when it does I'll be able to remove the Roku from the second HDMI port. It's disappointing that this is not available, but I guess we'll have to live with it. I understand that Sling IS available on Sony Android TVs, but my understanding is that Android TV is nowhere near as slick as WebOS. I don't know that from personal experience, just from what I've read on the interwebs. I have tried to consume Sling TV through the Web interface on the TV, but apparently that browser does not support Flash; I'm thinking that Sling requires Flash and as a result we can't access it in the TV browser. 3) While the Smart report is great and intuitive, one disappointment I have with it is that it only functions as a "universal" remote for a limited variety of other devices. I wanted to program it to operate the JRiver Media Center software on my computer (which uses a Windows Media Center remote), but it doesn't know about that type of device, and has no "learning" mode like most universal remotes. Meanwhile I have a nice universal remote (which I use for said Media Center software), and I can train it to do most of the functions on my Smart remote, except the scroll button. 4) Several times the picture setting reverted from Vivid to Standard. We called customer support a few times about this, and got generally good support. We apparently eventually figured out how to prevent this annoyance, as it has remained set to Vivid for almost a week now. Overall we're very happy with this TV set. Not the least reason for this happiness is that it takes only 5 seconds to turn the TV on. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
