Description & Features+
An herb with a warm, aromatic and piney flavour. Thyme is the dried leaves of thymus vulgaris, a small perennial of the mint family. The leaves measure about 1/4" in length and 1/10" in width. The plant grows about eighteen inches tall and produces small flowers that are very attractive to honey bees.
Ground thyme is used in stuffings, poultry, meats, stews, fish, and game. Thyme is part of bouquet garni, herbes de Provence, and the Middle East spice blend Zahtar, along with jerk and curry blends. Add to Manhattan clam chowder, in gumbo and herb salad dressing. Rub over lamb, beef, pork and chicken. Sprinkle on tomato soup.
