This really does work- noticeable difference is dust and air quality. Every time we spray hair spray in bathroom the red light for bad air quality will come on within 90 sec, so you know it is sensitive and working

I originally bought this to help with my allergies and it worked well for that. Recently a large fire has been burning down several acres a little bit away from us, so there are ashes falling everywhere. It's very difficult to breathe outside right now, but with this air purifier we are able to keep the air inside our house clean. It's working way better than I expected it to, definitely would recommend.

Great Product

I researched several air purifiers and kept coming back to this one. When it arrived I was really concerned that I might have to return it before even trying it, because the box was severely damaged. The entire bottom of the box was reinforced with pieces of other cardboard and tapped in a half hazard way. But when I pulled it out and took a careful look, I could see that the unit wasn't damaged.

As soon as I started it, the red light bar came on, indicating that it was already cleaning the air. I've seen other reviews about the light being too bright on this in a bedroom at night. I don't see a problem with it being too bright unless you have the unit close to the bed facing you. Other than that, it shines like a night light. I have this in my living room/dining area (600 sq. ft.), this unit cleaned the whole room on its first try within a half hour on Turbo. Now, I've also read on some reviews that the Turbo is Loud! It's no louder that an oscillating fan on a medium setting. The other 3 levels are very quiet, at times I look over to see if it's still running because it's quiet. You'll be Surprised at how much clean air this unit pumps out! This is the Best Buy I've made in a long time! I plan on getting my daughter one for her family too!

Absolutely Great to Breath Clean!

I purchased the Winix 5500-2 air purifier after I saw it in my doctor's office.  I had asked my doctor why they chose this particular purifier and was told that one of the filters was washable and you only needed to replace the other filter once a year.  The Winix 5500-2 is highly rated and it's quiet even when running at the highest speed.  In the month I've had it I've noticed much less dust on my furniture and less allergy related stuffiness in my family.  I have the purifiers running all the time and didn't notice a change in my gas/electric bill.  I have purchased a second Winix 5500-2 for my 1000sqft home (one upstairs and one downstairs).
I had 3 Holmes aer purifiers and didn't notice any difference in either the dust on my furniture or allergies running them.  I changed the expensive filters religiously without noticeable results.  In Northern California we have been plagued by wildfires over the last few years and I didn't feel the Holmes purifiers made a difference in the air quality.

Winix is a winner

Prior to receiving the Winex 5500, I was clearing my throat at night with sinus drainage problems.  Now I sleep like a baby!  I am not only happy but very content....  This product fit very well in my bedroom and I keep it on Automatic.  It makes no noise as do many other makes and must be clearing the air as it said it would....It is a keeper!

Product that comes through with great results!

We have two of these now. They're awesome!  These filters are no joke in that they remove an incredible amount of stuff from the air. I like that you have a pre-filter as well as an odor filter - and then you have the HEPA filter as well!  The units are quiet. We keep the plasma wave off. 

We use a piece of paper over the light on the front of the device. That may be the only drawback (that the light doesn't turn off), but it's quite minor.  

I've owned the number of the filtrete units and a Dyson. This brand is far better in my opinion.

Great filter!  Very quiet and cleans well!

I have two of these now. One in the basement and one upstairs. Sometimes I question how much they do but give it a while and you'll see all the dust collected. Also just leave it on auto and let it do it's thing. Lastly buy the filter covers that stick to the start of the filter system, they trap hair and dust before getting into everything else and will make the filter last longer.

Great product at this price

I bought this to help with really bad allergies. I noticed I don't wake up nearly as congested/ sneezing. The filter seems pretty sensitive. I forgot to turn it on one night and woke up sneezing. About 10 min after turning it on. My sneezing stopped. I will be purchasing a second unit for my living room. Definitely worth the money!

A must for allergy sufferers

I just received this air purifier after spending weeks scouring over reviews doing sooo much research, and out of the box the "smart" air sensor does not work, and the brand new remote does not work at all. The back of the remote is impossible to open to check/remove the battery. I lit a candle and placed it directly in front of this thing for a few min and then blew it out and watched the smoke go right into the sensor, and the sensor stayed bright blue so the machine never kicked up a notch to filter out the smoke. Next I lit some incense and held it right in front of the sensor for about 5 minutes and same thing. Sensor stayed bright blue indicating perfectly clean air. I tried manually resetting, but out of the box, this one seems to be a dud. If the sensor can't be trusted, the auto feature is worthless for the machine to kick into the right gear to filter out the bad stuff. Not sure if I want to try again with another 5500 or just move on to Coway/Levoit. Not looking forward to hauling this thing back to the store, but will be doing so this weekend.

"Smart" Sensor

I purchased one unit and it seemed to b pretty good, so I bought a 2nd one.  That one had/has some issues: sometimes spontaneously toggles away from "auto" setting.  I developed a work-around, but when I have a bit of time I'll likely return it to the store (that's what Winex people told me to do).
