I purchased this mixer just before Christmas because I was needing a larger capacity bowl for my baking. I have had KitchenAid mixers since the late 1980's, and also have a Hobart 20 qt mixer from 1988. Before purchasing this model, I was using two 6 qt machines. I must say that this new model is much more quieter and sturdier than the previous kitchenAids that I have. The larger capacity bowl is perfect for making smaller batches of dough. This will be my go-to mixer when the Hobart 20 qt is overkill.

OMG! I purchased the commercial 8-quart stand mixer in August but did not get to use it until December!  It purred and whizzed around mixing to perfection a long-standing family cookie recipe of Cherry Winks. I am beyond thrilled with this mixer and looking forward to getting a few attachments for it too.

Beyond Pleased!

Love everything

I had a 6 qt KitchenAid mixer that lasted me for over 35 years of heavy use so this time I bought the 8 qt 500 watt commercial mixer without the guard and it saw heavy use for the last two months. I am really happy with it as it is way more powerful than the 6 qt mixer and holds more dough. I make bars which fill two 9x13" pans in one batch. Once baked and removed from pans the two uncut bars weigh 12.5 to 12.8 total pounds before shipping.

Great features

I have used Kitchen Aid mixers all my life. I still have my grandmas old one. This is my first commercial stand mixer. It goes from stir to 10. I don't know what happenes above speed 5, but I have never made it above speed 4. Speed 4 is like 8 on my Professional Kitchen Aid. It is also sooo much quieter. Its just amazing. Invest in the scraper blade. That little beauty is amazing!

Wow!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was surprised that the base is hollow, and not steady like all my other previous stand mixers, which makes it a little unsteady for the money I expected. And something so simple to not leave the little apparatus on the knob that allows you to lift was a shock. Now I'm desperately searching how to get the little black knob at the end of the handle, but it it does the work exactly as I had expected

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I have 2 Kitchen aid mixers.  The first one was a 4 quart and it worked beautifully.  It mixed well, dough blade worked well...so I thought I would upgrade to the commercial version of the mixer.

There are 2 problems with this mixer:
1.  The length of the blades (dough blade, whipping blade) are different lengths.  So when you make whip cream with the whipping blade, my mixer works fine...but when you use the dough blade, it is shorter and does not reach all the flour or whatever is at the bottom of the bowl.  This is a problem that needs to be fixed.

2.  It seems to make a clicking noise when things get alittle heavy in the bowl (ie: when I made butter, I put whipping cream in the bowl using the whipping blade).  When it was liquid...no noise...as it turned to whip cream (alittle noise) but when it turned closer to butter it was clicking (in the motor section not in the blades)

KitchenAid needs to fix this...it is definitely not a commercial grade mixer other than a powerful motor...but if you can't properly mix things, what's the point ?

Another issue is when you put the bowl in the mount, it is difficult to get the whipping blades on the mixer.  you need to put that in the bowl first...then mount the bowl...then mount the blade.  My old mixer (with the tilt back) was easy to mount the blades

needs improvement

We purchased 2 of these stand mixers. After much research on stand mixers, we decided to go with this brand and model vs Hobart. One of the mixers is currently running great. The other arrived in what seemed to be ok condition, however made a clanking noise which we thought was the beater hitting the bowl. Did the adjustment, but still heard the noise. Soon after the mixer started to get louder, and so we tested it without the attachments and found that there was definitely something wrong. We are in the process of sending it back. We are really hard on our equipment and this is a real acid test. All in all we are satisfied with the product. At least for now.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this thinking it would be so much better and stronger than my other Kitchen Aid Mixer because it was commercial.  It works but it's not great.  It walks all over the counter, I have to stand there and hold it in place. It knocks like crazy. I've adjusted the height of the beaters like the instructions say to do, but it still isn't right. And it doesn't handle my doughs well at all. I have had 3 Kitchen Aid Mixers. This is my first commercial one.  I am looking into different brands now since the quality of kitchen aid has gone down so much.

Under warranty, my new mixer replaced one of the same design & capacity (NSF Commercial 8-qt) because the faulty one leaked grease from the drive spindle and onto the dough after 10 months of LIGHT DUTY.  This result was not good for an NSF-rated mixer.  I'm hoping that the replacement mixer does not leak.  Since receipt, after only one mixing job, the replacement has not leaked grease.
