I bought this thermostat to replace an old Honeywell round analog thermostat. I connected both cables (red and white) to the R and W terminals. The thermostat works well, but it requires two AAA batteries.

Heat & cool, up & down . . . simple and elegant.  Instructions are very thorough, this is one unit that anyone can install if they take it one step at a time.  Highly recommended.
