I saw a lot of complaints about the coating coming off the Kitchen Aid dough hook so decided to get the stainless steel one instead. It arrived quickly and is very heavy/sturdy. Ive used it to make bread and its fantastic.

Cant beat the stainless steel dough hook

I bought this as a replacement for the white dough hook that came with the artisan 5 quart. My white dough hook started to peel after hitting the bowl too often. It turns out you have to adjust the mixer head lift height very so often. I've had the mixer for almost 20 years. This stainless steel dough hook looks like it can last a lifetime. Very sturdy and I believe it accelerated my dough's gluten development.

Kitchen Aid

I'm really horrified to read the reviews now that I've received my order. The one I got is correctly made from stainless steel, and I can only HOPE it does not have lead in it as someone else suggested. UGH! This item is very weighty compared to the original white coated aluminum one. All those complaining of the finish becoming tarnished or charcoal colored after one wash in the dishwasher have been sent a polished aluminum product that never should be used in food prep or put in the dishwasher. I presume KitchenAid's suppliers have been shipping aluminum ones instead of S.S., which is a travesty. KitchenAid, please stop outsourcing overseas and start making high-quality products we expect right here in the USA!!

I lucked out and actually got STAINLESS STEEL!

My bowl lift heavy duty mixer is basically worthless. I never use it because the beater, hook, etc. are all complete garbage. I've been looking to replace them with something useful for over 10 years. I'm not the only one, so why hasn't KA done anything about their crappy products??

What is wrong with KitchenAid???

We used our hook for the first time recently, and after washing the hook in the dishwasher, the chrome finish is completely gone and the hook leaves a dark grey residue when touched.  This was very surprising considering this product page says that this hook is dishwasher safe.

Coating disappeared after being run in dishwasher

I've had my mixer for about a year or so now and finally had a chance to use my dough hook recently. I made sure to check if it's dishwasher safe before placing it in for a wash. With my luck the chrome came off after the dishwasher. When touched it leaves dark stains. Not sure what could have gone wrong.

Do not place in the dishwasher

The Stainless Steel Dough Hook that came with my Mixer is not dishwasher safe. It turned dark gray and leaves residue on anything it touches. Horrible quality control as it must not be Stainless Steel except in color. My wife bought this at work, guess how many customers won't buy those expensive mixers now.

Shoddy material

Used the dough hook yesterday and put it in the dishwasher, not knowing what would happen because we didn't have a dishwasher before last year, and the coating came off. Is it still safe to use?  I had no idea it wasn't dishwasher safe or I wouldn't have put it in. I see that you have made a change since 2018 that all attachments are dishwasher safe, that's great but not helpful now. 

If you own an older mixer DO NOT and are just now using the attachments, check before putting them in the dishwasher.

Dough hook went in the dishwasher

This is really bad, I need to replace mine as the the hook can no longer be used. Such a waste of money. It's sad cause I bought this mixer thinking it would be good and I needed the dough kneading hook. Can someone tell me where to get a new hook that would hopefully not tarnish?
