Bought this for my son who likes retro and just bought his first house. He loves it and says it works better than our 15 year old toaster. lol Guess ill be purchasing a new one for us, too.

I like to put my appliances in the cupboards, but this toaster is so aesthetically pleasing that I will leave it out as a conversation piece. I am impressed with the bottom grippers that stay tight to the cupboard when I try to move the toaster around. The cord easily stores underneath and the crumb tray can be accessed with just one hand. I have tried different thickness types of bread and it does a great job of toasting evenly through.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the West Bend Retro Style 2 Slice Toaster in Gray for my son fit his first toaster. We absolutely love it. It toast bread like any other toaster, but let's talk about that design…cutest thing I've ever seen!! And, the gray is going to go with everything.

So Adorable

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a seriously stylish retro toaster. Even my husband and son commented on how cool it is. The dial and lever remind me of a classic automobile and are pretty and fun to use. The grooved edge on the bottom is reminiscent of a 50s diner, but the stainless steel gives it a classy look that matches my modern appliances. The overall style is classic, timeless and really unique. It has a nice thick cord and handy cord storage. The crumb tray is in back which makes it a bit less convenient but maintains the cool design of the front.

After a week of use, I think this toaster is pretty solid in terms of performance as well. I ran it empty before using as instructed, and there was some odor on that first use but not anytime after. The toaster has 6 settings for toasting, as well as bagel, defrost and cancel functions. The defrost and bagel setting can be used at the same time when toasting frozen bagels. It was a bit of a learning curve to figure out what numbers to use since the manual doesn't give darkness levels or times and just gives some general guidelines. I was used to using a digital toaster, but I found that I don't miss the countdown of the timer much. The approximate times for this toaster's settings range from 1 minute and 15 seconds to 3 minutes and 48 seconds. I usually start with level 2-3 and find that works for most of my needs, so about 2 miutes give or take. I have been able to properly toast bagels, English muffins and sandwich bread, as well as defrost and toast frozen sprouted bread. I haven't had a chance to toast any naan bread yet, but the slots appear to be a perfect length for that as well as being wide enough for fairly thick bagels. 

So far I haven't had any issues with English muffins or smaller bagels sticking in the toaster, and this seems well designed to pop even smaller breads high enough to reach the top of the toaster. However, I think the lift could be improved on. You need to hold the lever up or jimmy it up and down to get it to raise, and it's harder to use with heavier and thicker bagels. It is only a 1/2 inch lift which doesn't make a huge difference and still leaves English muffins a bit close to the top of the toaster for comfort. Be aware that the top and sides of this toaster do get pretty hot. I accidentally touched the side of the toaster, and it didn't burn but was a surprise.

All in all, I highly recommend this toaster. It has a lot of great modern features with a dash of retro cool.

Burns breads

Simple design with great style but had it one week and the lever sticks. Going to return ASAP.

Level doesn't work after 1 week! Ugh!

This is a piece of junk.  It's completely PLASTIC except for the inside heating elements.  Who makes a toaster out of plastic???  That's a fire hazard!  On top of the that the cord is one foot long and attached at the FRONT OF THE TOASTER so you can't push the toast down or use the settings.
