This set is really interesting to learn about Leonardo's flying machine. The mechanism you build with the set are very interesting and works really well. The whole set is nice and looks great. It's not difficult to assemble but requires patience because it has a lot of small pieces. I enjoyed building this LEGO set.

Learning from Leonardo

Adding this set as one of my favorite build, display, and mechanical favorites! Each of the major steps provides you with a fun and unique build experience. The stand build helps in not only the display process, but in utility to build the steps that follow. Wow, and the end step weaves it all together with the creatively engineered string (which is sturdy) to enable the flapping action. Hey, it doubles as a fancy fan for all the Steampunk cosplayers (and the Series 27 Steampunk figure accompanies it so good!). It isn't nearly as complex as I thought it would be. Pace yourself and enjoy the thoughtfully crafted tribute to this Flying Machine. I enjoyed the nuggets of history and the Leonardo da Vinci minifigure is amazing, complete with the sketch brick of the Flying Machine's plans. Recommended and a keeper for the LEGO display (as long as you can resist flapping around with it!).

Fun, thoughtful build with action and history!

As soon as Lego announced the upcoming release of this set, I knew it would be the first set I would buy on January 1st.
It does not disappoint at all, I still can't get over that it is just short of 500 pieces, it looks so much more.
I really hope this is the beginning of a Da Vinci series.
It makes such a great display piece and it will be proudly displayed with my Lego Mona Lisa , I cannot recommend this set enough!

Another Lego/Da Vinci masterpiece

I love the historical subject of this set.  While da Vinci's flying machine might not have ever been airworthy, it's certainly beautiful.  The build's intricacy culminates with a satisfying flapping motion that adds play value to a wonderful display piece.  The cost of this set is definitely a bonus.  I love its affordability.

Historical, Charming, and Satisfying Build

I loved making this set and I think it has a great design. The moving wings and tail are a great touch with good mobility. The set was larger than expected which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just make sure you check the measurements so you dont have to adjust your shelves or anything. It's a great build to just look at and its currently displayed next to my Neuchwanstein castle, ship in a bottle, and fossil sets.

What can I say!

What a challenging build and was it worth it! 
The set is very cleverly designed as it start quite easy and then advances to a very challenging build.

I enjoyed every minute and as a Da Vinci fan (he's one of my inspirations as a Creative Consultant) I loved making the set. It's pride of place in my studio so when I need inspiration I will look at this set. 

Also the flapping wings mechanism and sound is sooo addictive and the mini-figure is really nice with Leonardo holding his quill and sketch!

Wow!

I was very anxious to get a hold of this new set and was not disappointed. As an aviation nut this was right up my alley. It took me a couple of hours to assemble.  Because of all the moving parts I was constantly going back to the instructions to make sure I got it right and at times it was hard to see the right location of some of the sub-assemblies but with a few go-backs to correct my errors the final result was outstanding - especially the mechanical flapping of the wings. Well done Lego!

Complicated But Excellent

I was shocked to see my good friend Leonardo da Vinci in a field by his villa with a strange contraption.  Wood and fabric and wings.  She is a flying machine he said.  Really, was it hard to build I asked?  No, it was a great build and went together very well.  The instructions were clear and the flapping mechanism works great.  He showed me the drawings – looks just like the ones you drew I said.


Does it have play value?  Yes, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the bright sun taking turns flapping and landing.  It shows well and I think he will put it next to another ornithopter that was made last year.  Overall, you may want to seek out the Maestro and get your own.  I think you will not regret it.


What is next I asked.  He showed me his Codex Atlanticus and I said, what is that?  An aerial screw?  He winked at me.  I can't wait to see more.

Codex on the Flight of the Birds

I had my eye on this set since it was announced. I found it to be a fun and interesting build, and was quite pleased with how the mechanics came together. It is a great desktop piece.

Innovative Aviation

It's a Christmas gift for my child 🎁
She has been receiving LEGO products since she was 2 years old.  41 years of Lego products.  They are part of her decor!  Her children have grown up with LEGOs.
