I received a pressure canner for Christmas and needed these to can some apples. Bought them on sale and just couldn't be happier with them. Great Ball quality and wonderful value. I highly recommend them. The wide mouth makes them much easier to pack and stack. I highly recommend these.

Beautiful jars! I love these because they have multiple purposes, I use them as normal drinking cups but if I need to storage something they’re also useful for that!

Multipurpose

4 stars due to price. There’s no reason whatsoever for canning jars to cost as much as they do. Nice enough jars, I use them for storage for different pantry items as well as canning. I’ve even frozen my homemade broth in them from time to time.

they work exactly as intended

I’ve been buying these Ball 16 oz wide‑mouth mason jars for the past few years and use them mainly for canning whole figs and fig preserves. Every jar sealed properly when using a water bath canning method. I also like that the set includes a storage box for the jars—it makes organizing easier and protects the jars when they’re not in use.

Tips %26 Notes
- Because these are wide‑mouth jars, they’re ideal for larger pieces of fruit (like whole figs) or preserves that you want to get in and out of easily. 
- Clean the jars thoroughly, pre‑heat them to the proper temperature (per your canning method), and ensure lids and bands are in good shape—this helps ensure a good seal.
- Use it will a jar funnel to make it easier to keep the jar rim clean.  Wipe the jar rim clean with a dish towel before placing a lid on it.  This will help ensure a better seal with the wax on the lid.
- After processing, check that each lid is concave (a sign of vacuum seal) and store upright in a cool, dark place.
- The included box is a nice bonus: it helps protect jars from breaking and keeps them stacked neatly.
-As a suggestion: number or label the jars with the date and contents—figs will taste best if used within a year or so.
-Because glass is breakable, handle with care when filling, transporting, and storing.
-If you’re doing frequent batches, consider buying extra lids and bands so you don’t reuse old ones beyond recommended limits.
-When working with whole fruit preserves, leave appropriate headspace (usually about ½‑inch for pints) to allow for expansion and heat penetration.

Great for Canning Figs

Not the quantity of years past, but you can still depend on Ball for jars and lids that consistently seal well with a water bath. Save the box to store your jam if you plan on giving them as gifts. I also bought the  Ball water bath canner,  which i highly recommend. No more stove watching, and it even sterilizes the jars.

Dependable Ball Jars

Bought these to use as vases and holders for pretzel rods for a baby shower. They were perfect with the wide mouth and just the right height.

Perfect for vases or drinking glasses

I read these jars were good for storing strawberries in the freezer.  I am trying to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables, so I’m storing some June and July berries for Christmas desserts!  They’re even stackable!

When canning I like to use good canning jars so I don’t lose anything in the canning process.  I have used hundreds and hundreds of jars over the years and I’m always happy with Ball.  These are full of pickled mixed veggies.

Ball makes canning a great experience!

I use these to freeze bone broth or anything else that fits inside because plastic is the devil.

Beautiful Clear Jars

They sure don't make them like they used to!  I bought these in the store only a few months ago and already 2 have broken.  This last one almost cut my hand open when it broke while washing.  These have not been exposed to a dishwasher, heat, freezer, microwave, or anything of that nature, so I am unsure as to why they are so brittle.  I use them only to store pasta noodles, dried beans, potato flakes, and such.  I would be scared to pieces to trust these to can with!  They would probably explode in the canner!  I'm so disappointed.  The Ball name used to mean quality.  Now it seems to mean only disappointment and bad investment.  I would not recommend trusting these jars to preserve your precious garden items.  My heart is broken at such a disgraceful product.
