I can't stop buying this book for my friends, whether they have told me about a looming decision or simply need some space for their soul to breathe.  From cover to cover, Emily P. Freeman provides gentle guidance through honest storytelling, sincere prayers, and thought-provoking practices.  I paused to savor pages, to sit in His presence, and to listen to His voice.  The Next Right Thing isn't just about good writing and sage advice, but about leading the reader into the presence of the Creator, who is glorified by trust amidst indecision and to whom nothing is a surprise.  It has been said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step (Chinese proverb), and I can't think of a better next step than to open the pages of this book.

The Next Right Thing is a practical guide for those of us who struggle to make decisions, both large and small.  Emily's kind and gentle perspective is a breath of fresh air about a normally tense topic.  Emily provides approachable, attainable tips both directly for deciding what our next right thing is as well as extending ourselves and others grace as we pursue it.  I can't recommend this book enough as it has already helped me feel more confident in making everyday decisions.
Plus the book is beautiful - hardcover with no book jacket, and a green interior.  Couldn't be more lovely.

The Next Right Thing is a Must Read!

This book is amazing! Emily breaks down decision making into simple steps. She encourages her reader to just do what is the next right thing. The chapters are short, but full of wisdom and encouragement. She ends each chapter with a prayer and a practice step. The quotes and scripture references she uses drive home this idea of the next right thing. I recommend this book to anyone who makes decisions, which is everyone!!! My favorite quote is found in chapter 8, "Honor your design and image-bearing identity enough to be honest about what you want most" (pg. 89). Purchase this book and give as gifts, I'm telling you people will thank you!  I received an early copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Her podcast has impacted thousands of people as they have wrestled through learning to embrace the decision making process, especially as it relates to God's will for one's life. This book takes the nuggets of wisdom from the podcast and applies them in an even deeper way. In the first eight chapters I learned more about myself than I had in months. If you live and breathe in this society, than this book is for you! The overwhelming amount of decisions we face daily from small things to life changing decisions are all taking up soul space. Emily softly teases out the layers sitting right on top of the low grade anxiety that surrounds us. The thoughtful, reflective and story driven style she has woos you to come, sit, and ponder your personal next right thing. The prayer and practice she ends each chapter with make this ideal for slow, bite sized reading, or just as well for a total read though. Despite my decisive personality, I was able to uncover things about my decision making style and emotions that only come with a closer, deeper look into the soul.

I had the opportunity to read The Next Right Thing by Emily P. Freeman.  The book is super popular and Emily has her own podcast with the same title. Prior to reading this book, I was not familiar with Emily, nor have I read any of her previous books.

In The Next Right Thing, Emily shares many great insights about decision making. She encourages readers to find and invite co-listeners into their lives.  She also has a "no mentor" as opposed to someone who advises you on what to do. A "no mentor" helps you evaluate a decision and what to stay no to.  Emily encourages you to look at all you are doing (committed to) and evaluate if any of these activities are life draining.  (Because we sometimes do things sometimes simply because no on else will!)

One thing that impacted me from reading The Next Right Thing is turning the "ding" off my phone when I get an email. Removing one simple "distraction". I did it and ya know what? I don't miss it! I enjoyed the practical advice offered in The Next Right Thing.

Honestly, when I started reading The Next Right Thing I thought, "I have no major decisions to make and I don't really struggle with decision making".  BUT, I quickly realized that The Next Right Thing does not just deal with decision making, but rather life, and in a practical way.  

I would encourage you to pick up The Next Right Thing and see what Emily might have to share that would impact your life.  I was given a free copy of The Next Right Thing by the publisher for my honest review.
