Ratings & Reviews+

Paul McCartney - Wings Over America (Deluxe Edition) is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty comprehensive "Wings Over America" is one of the big live albums from the '70s, so I was interested to see what Paul would do when it came time to make it part of the "Archive Collection". Mr. McCartney did not disappoint. There's an album of some of Linda's photos from the tour, another book of drawings done by Humphrey Ocean during the tour, another book describing the events leading up to and surrounding the album, and then the Pièce de résistance, a "Tour Itinerary" done in scrapbook style with many items of interest regarding the tour and the album - recreations of ticket stubs, promotional materials, the set list, and, well, the itinerary. This book also contains the CDs and DVDs. The album proper sounds great, though they did trim some of the cheering at the ends of the sides, but they have segued the sides together so that the only gap is between disc 1 and disc 2. I thought the 3rd disc from the Cow Palace would be superfluous as all of the songs are contained on the main set, but it's a nice artifact to have as, unlike the main album, the stage patter has been preserved here and so you hear things such as Linda's introduction for "Live And Let Die" and Jimmy's for "Maybe I'm Amazed". The documentary is interesting, though I was stunned to see it was copyrighted 1979! All in all, a great collection, only complaints (and they're minor) is I would've liked to have seen the single versions of "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "Soily" tacked onto the third disc (I know they're not much different, if at all, from the album versions, but it would be nice to have them with their single fades) and the promotional poster included with the original album is absent (one side does appear as a small picture in the "Tour Itinerary" book). Otherwise, a stunning celebration of the highpoint of McCartney's solo career.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Product is great, but the shipping is not so great The product was received with a dent in the side and to the spine of one of the books. I was refunding by shipping, but I still have a dent in a $150 item. So much for collector value on the resale market.
