I wish the radio was larger, and some of the features are not as easy to use as I would like. The tuning and volume dials are the opposite of other radios I have had. I would like to see the AM/FM numbers better in a typical horizontal band. I sometimes forget to return the time/alarm tab to "real time" after I have set an alarm, and it is not easy to feel what you are doing without having a light on in order to adjust settings. It is a good radio for the price, but I wish, as in flip phones, that the radio was bigger, therefore easier to adjust. I think people would pay quite a lot more for a 30 to 50% increase in size.

I like the design and small foot print of this radio. For me, the only drawback is the on/off button, I have trouble finding it and hit the snooze button most of the time. There needs to be a way of raising/lowering the button or marking it in such a way the user can "feel" the correct button.

Great Clock Radio.

Handsome, but no preset button for preferred stations. Have to exchange it for a more practical device.

This is an attractive alarm clock with a clear display. However the size of the display, the actual dimensions of the visible digits has been reduced from the earlier model which I had for years. Similarly the brightness of the display has been diminished, which is not to my particular satisfaction.
The clock itself is superb to look at but I feel that the alterations from the previous model have not necessarily been to any visible advantage - almost change for change sake.

This product is excellent, but not as good as its predecessor.

This product was bought for me by son in law during the last Christmas boxing day as a gift. I really like this product expecially the mirror image. The sound quality is excellent and viewing the time during the night is magnificent. I will surely recommend this product to every.

Excellent Product

Got this to replace a clock radio which had a blue display which they say is bad for you.

The display and overall look is great. However the placement of the alarm turn off button is terrible. It's easy to hit the snooze button but the alarm off button is between the radio on button and another. When you try to turn the alarm off, you might hit the radio on button. This can be pretty unnerving in the dark when you can't see the buttons clearly and your half asleep & awake.

I see this rice is now $30 more than I originally paid for it, it's not worth $60.

Good design & display, bad buttons arrangement

The Philips Clock-Radio... Model # AJ3231/37 is quite the sophisticated design. Very cool. Something about it! Its brushed aluminum trim looks great in contrast to the ample glossy black screen displaying the time and information in soft amber colour. Attractive.
Radio portion sounds very good. The controls overall are a breeze. You could say... the function and design of this Philips Clock-Radio is... well... "timeless"!

A work of art!

I love the look of this clock radio but that's about it. It's too hard to sort out the alarm when it goes off and you're tired anyway.

I wish I'd read these reviews before buying the alarm.

If you set it to wake you using the radio, it still beeps. And plenty loud-enough to hear it and for the beeping to detract from John Humphries and the others on Radio4.

The philips support FAQs say to tune it better but this doesn't remove the problem. Turning up the volume of the radio isn't appropriate for early morning! The only option is to turn off the radio alarm and then turn the radio back on manually every morning. Pointless!!!

Beeps when set as radio alarm!

I like this radio. Aesthetically it ticks the boxes and it's fairly intuitive to operate.

As mentioned by others however there is self evidently a fundamental fault with the alarm function - when set to radio wake the buzzer can also be heard in the background, albeit very faintly. The FAQ gives a fudged answer to the problem providing two unsatisfactory work-arounds. The issue needs acknowledging and fixing. I would assume it's being looked at by Philips.

I've decided to keep it rather than return it. I use the radio primarily to check the time and wake me up in the morning. For actual radio listening in the bedroom I use the freeview radio on the TV. I suppose it's up to the individual whether this issue is important enough to prevent someone buying the radio.
