Clearout Deal

I really enjoy my Nintendo 3ds xl. If you watch the prices for it you can end up getting the device for a really low price. I found this system for $169.99, which is a great price considering it usually costs $199.99 or higher. What made this even better is Walmart's price check. Two days after I purchased this item Walmart dropped the price even more, to $149.99. Walmart customer service quickly refunded me the difference in price with no questions asked. They have great customer service. The device itself is really fun in my opinion, not just for kids but for me, a college student. It allows me to play games between classes or whenever I'm bored. The battery life surprised me as well, it lasts for a long time. I played constantly for over 10 hours straight without needing to charge the battery, with wifi being turned on and off multiple times, something the PS vita could never do, and it even cost fifty dollars less than the PlayStation vita. I cannot speak highly enough for this device.

Great System for the price

Purchased it for my 10 year old at walmart.com. He has a Nintendo DS since 2009 but wanted to upgrade to 3 DS XL - has a larger screen, a camera and additional features. I reserached the price on amazon, gamaestop, and bestbuy. Bestbuy and gamestop offer a trade-in towards a new console purchase. None of the options beat walmart.com price. It came as a bundle, so we got a starter game to go with it. Very pleased with the product. No hassle purchase and shipping.

Love it!

Love this thing. I've been wanting it for a while now but I haven't been sure whether or not I should get it. It was on sale for 169.99 one day, so I decided it was a good time. I just started my pokemon Y adventure. I feel like a kid again! Haha I played for 10 hours STRAIGHT.. I have a problem!

And the 3D effect is impressive, never experienced anything quite like it.

Great console, great games, great price, and exceeded expectations.

Awesome

I had been thinking of getting a 3DS for some time now, and when I saw this special edition XL coming out with the newest Pokemon game I jumped on it. The system itself is awesome, a great piece of technology that allows 3D gaming without glasses. The screens are also a nice size. The design on the item makes it that much cooler, and fits perfectly in a long line of Pokemon game systems.

Awesome Product

Seeing as I wanted to play Pokemon X and didn't have a 3DS, I decided to go with this limited edition one. It's amazing in person! The back and front designs are gorgeous and they have a glossy finish. As with all 3DS XL handhelds, the screens on this are generously large and you will not strain your eyes trying to play. Very happy I decided to go with this version!

Perfect for Pokemon fans

Much better in person the art is really lovely and it was nicely package. I had order the bundle set and the game has just arrived (will review that later).

However now they are including a bonus accessory kit after I had order the bundle; although not too big of a deal still would had liked to have it.

I purchased this 3DS on black Friday as part of their discounted package deal. The last handheld gaming device I'd owned was a Gameboy Color, so I was excited to finally get the DS experience. Overall, this is a very fun system. The screens are bright, the controls are comfortable and easy to use, and it fits very nicely in the hands. It's actually quite a bit heftier than I expected (but then I guess that's what I should've guessed, given that this is the XL version). I like that the 3D is adjustable-you'll have to tinker with it some to your comfort and personal preference, and after a while it can cause some eye strain, but it really is a fun feature to play around with. I usually have a hard time processing 3D in movies, but the 3D images in 3DS games are crisp, clear, and definitely 3D. Very cool to see in action. Battery life is decent if you keep the 3D on a minimum or all the way off, and the sleep feature allows you to keep the system running (accessing fun features like StreetPass) when you're on the go and/or not actively gaming on it without draining battery. The user interface is pretty intuitive, and basic setup is a breeze. The main complaint I have about the 3DS thus far is its durability, or rather lack thereof. On the second day that I had it, I slid it into my purse when I went out so I could use it on a long car ride. I was careful to keep it away from anything sharp or pointy. It was on top of a plush coinpurse. Later in the day when I pulled it out of my purse, I noticed a rather large patch of the pink finish on the top had been chipped away, revealing the white underneath. I'm not sure how that happened, but I was very disappointed that it already looks damaged after only a few days of playing with it. I'll probably just cover the spot with a sticker, but it surprises me that a system being marketed towards children is this easily damaged. Maybe the finish is weaker on the pink version, though, because my friends have the blue unit and the black unit, and both of theirs seem more durable and have not sustained any cosmetic damage as of yet. Overall, I'd recommend this because it's a very impressive and fun unit, but the lack of durability makes it lose a star for me.

Great handheld, not so durable

This special edition 3DSXL has a special image of Xerneas and Yvetal on the front, and the starters on the back--great for a Pokemon fan. It is quite shiny and attractive, but easy to scratch up.
In general, the 3DS XL is bigger and more comfortable to use than the regular 3DS. The interface is simple and easy on the eye, and game graphics are beautiful.
However, this is one handheld console I would not take with me on a trip. For one thing, the battery lasts between an hour or two, tops, which is about as bad as my Toshiba laptop. It also seems really fragile and breakable. The touchscreen scratches easily, and the DS family seem to be prone to top screen black-out. I have to be super careful while using and transporting it.
It is definitely not as sturdy as previous Nintendo handhelds, such as the Advance SP (I've thrown mine around and have dropped it a million times, yet it still lives). I think one fall could wreck the 3DSXL.
Bottom line: The 3DSXL is a great handheld for a responsible adult, but not good for the young or careless.

Great for adults, but not the young or careless

Both of the kids had 3DS XL systems and my normal 3DS just seemed a little small. The price I was able to get for the Black/Black version on walmart.com was too tempting to pass up. I purchased the system online and was able to pick it up at the local store in 20 minutes. Thoroughly enjoy the larger screens and this system fits my hands better. My only complaint is the cheap, plastic feel to the system. It just doesn't have the same build feel as my 3DS. The Home Select and Start buttons are flush and difficult to push. The hinge feels less secure and more likely to break. Overall I like playing games on this system and compared to the original price I got a great bargain. The system just doesn't appear to be as solid and long lasting as previous model.

Good but Cheap

It works very well. I suggest having an internet outlet for it. It plays DS games as well as the 3DS games. My only complaint would be that it's kind of expensive and that it has a glare. If you aren't used to the 3D it is hard to adjust to. Overall though I liked it.
