Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this for my older sister. It was really hard to find, so thankyou Walmart for having it online. It was wonderful Christmas present for her, as she hadn't been able to find it at all. You can find alot of the older movies at a good price through Walmart.com....Everyone should take a look...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For the performance--music .I remember the very beginning buzz on a "new kid" from Minneapolis named Prince. I grew up in the suburbs about 20 minutes away from Minneapolis. We were talking about music at the dinner table and my Aunt said "Oh yaah, that's Mrs. Johnson's boy-she's a nice lady!" Our mouths hung open and our mother said the mashed potatoes were showing. Aunt Mo was the head nurse at a huge clinic downtown--she knew (of) and treated many, many people. The legal drinking age in Minnesota was dropped from 21 to 19 so on goes the ongoing PARTY! The clubs downtown were great and everyone had fun except our parents and the city bus drivers. The last pick up for the 'burbs was 2:00AM and I think they lurched the bus on purpose--just to make the drunken stragglers (us) feel worse! We never saw the phenomenal Prince---we were slightly behind his rocketing success (who wasn't?) and we were/are so proud to call him "our own"-a famous person from Minnesota.Purple Rain is filmed in and around Minneapolis and in one of the clubs I remember very well.;) Purple Rain is an Academy Award winning soundtrack and THAT in and of itself makes the movie brilliant--timeless. Prince performing with the Revolution--Morris Day and the Time---Prince took the old disco, shook it up,threw it on it's head and said "THIS is NOW!" It more then explains why his music (from Purple Rain and everything else) can be heard in every corner of the store,mall,shop--I just heard 'When Doves Cry' at a mini mart known for revolving country songs--I smiled a little when the cashier grumbled that "the new manager changed the channel!" The supporting actors with the exception of Morris being Morris and his band mate, dancer and over all cool guy Jerome---aren't very good. Apollonia is ravishing--my goodness! --lingerie and a cape at 35 degrees? I've seen THAT downtown but, they never look like her and they always get arrested and 'evaluated' for three days! Her 'group' is terrible but no one's listening to that weak warbling anyhow--she's wearing her second change of lingerie! When Prince dares her to jump in Lake Minnetonka--which is cold as a witch's----she should freeze her face--temporarily--she'd stop TALKING! The Revolution look depressed and the only one who's mildly concerned but not actually worried is Prince--he knows he'll make it, leave ,come back and own a big house plus studio in a place we call 'Minni-apple'. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Collectors' Item I have always loved this movie since its debut in the 80's. The music is classic, Prince looks amazing, and let's not forget about Apollonia. It's funny, but also had a few serious undertones. Classic and will remain in my collection of all time favorites!
