I bought this item for a gift, I have one like this and I have been doing it for many years.

just purchased 2 of these and have only used once they were so easy to use. You must learn what temp is best for the type of fondue I had a cheese and was not impressed ( didn't like the cheese) but didn't need much heat to melt. Second one was for oil and it was awesome but 325 F to 350F is perfect they heat up fast and are easy to clean.
