Ratings & Reviews+

Salton VitaPro Low Speed Juicer and Smoothie Maker is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from adequate for the price I paid I have been using this juicer for about 3 months now and it is OK. I couldn't afford a Vitamix so I went with the Salton. It works, the waste is minimal and the pulp is practically dry. It is very difficult to clean, there are 7 different pieces to wash. The pulp gets jammed very quickly which stops the whole process. The instructions state "press the reverse button several times to clear the jam" this does not work at all. Every single time I end up dismantling the whole appliance to clear the jam with a toothpick, losing most of my fruit and veggies in the process. The motor is powerful enough to handle raw carrots but there is a lot pf prep work that has to be done before hand. ie: remove cores and seeds, cut fruit and veggies into small pieces etc. I expected it to be less hassle than it proved to be. The juice is good, it just isn't worth all the work to make it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good while it works The juicer extracts almost all of the juice from fruits and veggies. It's not very fast, but that's in the name. HOWEVER, just four months after purchase it stopped working. It's probably meant for soft fruits. If you want to juice carrots and beats, look elsewhere.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but not good enough This was the first juicer I bought and at first it worked great, but soon I realized that if you're into juicing greens and only greens it's awful. I've had it less than a year and it's broken. The pulp just kept getting more and more trapped as the blades dulled and the little hooks holding the container to the machine broke (all 3!). It's probably fine if you mix with more watery fruits and veggies or making nut milk, otherwise stay away!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes great juice. Lots of prep and cleanup. I've been using this daily for about a week. I like it much better than the (great quality) centrifugal juicer my mom loaned me when I started juicing. Did a lot of research, and found that low speed juicer is better nutritionally, though it takes more prep work, and cleanup. Juices: Wash the fruit/vegetables, and cut them into "fingers" no more than 1.5" X 3". Remove any hard/large seeds. Removing harder skins is not necessary, but quite helpful. Pulp comes out in pellets, and they can get stuck in the machine if not feeding according to directions (alternate soft and hard foods, feed slowly rather than jamming stuff into the machine.) I've had no issue juicing any of the following: apples (with skin, core, stem), oranges/lemon/lime (I cut them up and remove some of the skin so the juice isn't too bitter), spinach, mint, parsley, carrot, pineapple (without skin), thawed berries, kale, swiss chard, plum (seeded), beets, beet leaves, ginger (cut up smaller because of previous reviewer's comment)... and more. Yes, the juice is thicker than that from centrifugal juicers, because it crushes, then presses through mesh, rather than chopping it to itty bitty bits. Pulp comes out in firm little stream, which breaks into pellets. No point feeding it through again (unlike the centrifugal juicer), because there's almost no liquid left in the pulp, and it makes a mess of the juicer. Smoothies (only tried once so far... but definitely will again: banana, orange (almost no peel), mint, cranberries, thawed berries, handfuls of fresh spinach, chopped up ginger, beet, and some coconut milk to rinse the machine at the end. In smoothie mode, there is almost no waste. The larger screen for smoothies allows almost all of the pulp to go into the juice pitcher. So yummy! More tips to add: 1) Toward the end of juicing, press the reverse button, to send the residual pulp in the grinding chamber back up for processing. Then press "go" again, and it will be processed (less waste!) Could repeat that a few times during the process, if the machine seems to be running slowly or jamming. 2) Run a bit of water through at the very end, to get the residue cleaned out even more, and to "cut" the juice so it's not quite so concentrated. Bonuses: less cleanup, and more juice. 3) If the filter basket won't easily lift out of the bowl when you're all done, put the lid back on, and press reverse, and release. That loosens the grinder nicely. I know I didn't use all the right terms, but hopefully you get the idea. So far, I'm quite happy that I paid more to get a slow juicer. The only negative comments I have to offer are: 1) The plastic that's used for the pulp and juice containers doesn't hold up well to the elements of the juice. My juice bin had permanent etching at the foam line after the first use, and each time I use it it looks uglier. Strange... 2) It can be difficult to clean the machine, particularly the pulp chute. The scrub brush the came with the machine is helpful - use the hooked end to scrape stuff out before rinsing, and remove the orange plug from the back side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than enough power and capacity. Definitely powerful enough. There is a little orange plug to prevent the back up of fiber as previous reviewer stated. If the plug isn't securely in place it will jam. It makes quick work of everything I throw at it, even kohlrabi! Never an issue with seeds/stems. Wish it was self cleaning, as any juicer!
