[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Let me start off by saying I'm a media consumer, not a producer. I watch videos from various sources like Netflix and Hulu, since I cut the cord I find myself watching YouTube tv more often on my tablets than on my actual tv. I have been mostly been living in the apple ecosystem, I also own an iPad Pro and Microsoft surface pro.
  I had was a Samsung galaxy tab s2, which I loved but displayed a 4:3 aspect ratio which wasn't ideal for movies.  Now, that I have been given the  opportunity to purchase this tablet  at a reduced price for my honest review as part of the insiders  campaign, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 using a Super AMOLED HDR capable display in a 16:10 ratio is my go to device for video. Throw in the quad speakers tuned by AKG and Dolby Atmos support and you have one amazing portable movie machine .  After watching my first movie on this tablet, I went and bought a 256gb micro sd card and now I keep it topped off with movies and tv shows so no matter where I'm at I can watch!
 I didn't play many mobile games before, but with this tablet's processing capabilities, I am loving the immersive quality gaming. Downloading and getting into games from the google play store is so easy and fun, and this tablet has the power and display to handle anything you throw at it.
 On the  more serious side. This tablet came loaded with office for Android, and with the optional keyboard I'm running out of reasons to put off doing the things I need to do. It is better to be sitting outside of my house finishing off a PowerPoint than inside my office at work. With the included Dex mode, which basically puts a desktop layout onto your android tablet, I find it's less time consuming and even dare I say it, a little more fun to work on my presentations or documents while sitting on my deck in the backyard than under the glaring fluorescent lights of the office, and I can even stream some music in the background while I am doing it. I can still use my favorite wired headphones on this tablet because yes, this tablet has a headphone jack! 
 It also works very well with Samsung SmartThings which I have been controlling and monitoring my house with for years, another of the many huge pluses of this tablet. 
The S pen is incredible for note taking, working on documents, and generally controlling my tablet. But with all of the other features, google assistant,  Knox Security Platform and all the available apps, this tablet is now an integral part of my day!

Awesome multi-purpose device!

The Insiders

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is truly one of the best Android tablets on the market. 

It matches or beats the Apple iPad, the tablet gold standard, on many fronts. Graphics wise, this tablet can handle more intense games than the iPad Air 2 with the M8 motion coprocessor can. The display itself is vivid, bright, crisp, and very high resolution. It's on a level higher than most other Android tablets and on par, in the real world, with the latest generation Apple iPad displays. 

Where this tablet excels is in three areas. 

1) S Pen It may sound hokey, but the S Pen really makes your use of the Tab S4 more productive. I found myself using the S Pen more than actually touching the screen with my fingers. With a seemingly infinite number of sensitivity levels, the S Pen allows you to make detailed sketches and precisely select items on the screen. There's a secondary context menu option available by pressing the button on the S Pen. It's context sensitive, so the correct options will appear based on the app. Bottom line, the S Pen gives the Apple Pen a run for its money. 

2) Secured Folder One of the best parts about Samsung devices is the Secured Folder/KNOX encrypted vault. It allows you to install multiple instances of apps or keep certain apps separate from the rest of the device. This is great if you share a tablet between work and home. Or if you have certain apps you don't want anyone else to access. 

3) DeX Desktop In an effort to make Android more sutible as a desktop replacement, Samsung has developed the DeX desktop mode. It acts like a very deeply ingrained skin that turns your tablet into a desktop like experience. With the accessory keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse, Samsung will like you to use their tablet as a desktop replacement. Frankly, it's not all quite there yet, but for very lite PC users, this could be a helpful feature. Bottom line, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is a gigantic step up from other Android tablets on the market. Frankly, it's the only tablet equipped to take on an iPad. And for those users with specific use cases highlighted above, this is going to be your tablet of choice.

Android Tablets Have Grown Up

I've seen too many reviews where people are saying it takes too long for DeX to pop up, the cpu is a year old, among other complaints. I love this tablet. Its one of the best devices I've ever used. I'm well acquainted with tech products and this runs smoothly with no problems to date. I feel like people will complain about an 8700k (that's right, we got one!) because its not a 9900k. I use this tablet all day everyday and I am not sure if I will upgrade to the tab S6 when this device begins to die. I feel like buying a new battery would be preferable. The S6 has some marked improvements but it does not seem like such a large improvement besides immense storage capacity, RAM, and a boost in CPU performance. The improvements are nice but it didn't make me feel like I got tricked. I also don't feel like the tab S4 is trying to be a laptop. I personally think its better than a laptop save for the more intensive desktop applications. There are limits to what it can do because of the available applications on the OS. Mobile apps will continue to improve. Even with the limitations such as lack of compatible Adobe desktop apps, as a developer, I found many apps I can use to write code when I'm not using my desktop. There are text editors and even mini IDE's. Once you get used to the DeX layout its not bad at all. I use it everyday without a problem. All this after being spoiled by my desktop and it still does not keep me waiting or frustrate me. 
My only complaints about this device are that it becomes difficult to see the screen (even at max brightness) in direct sunlight and the speakers could be louder. My S9+ has better sound. Other than that the picture quality is amazing. If I had to choose between high brightness in the few times I hold this in direct sunlight and amazing picture quality I would still pick this. I actually opted to get the Defender series case instead of the keyboard. I prefer durability over practicality in the end, especially when the tablet already has a keyboard on the display. The cameras are actually pretty good. It looks good enough to Skype for chats with family, friends, clients, etc. I love the weight. With the heavy case and the large size of the tablet it makes it impossible for me to forget I'm holding it without making me feel fatigued. It also has great cooling. The only time it gets warm is during heavy gaming and even then it will not get too hot. The performance does not drop due to thermal throttling. Its more likely to drop due to weak internet connection.
Overall, I love this tablet very much. I've had this for months and I use it everyday constantly. The battery lasts forever and it charges very fast so I can take a break and come back to a fully charged battery and use it again. I have no idea what the hyper critical reviewers are expecting. Other companies might have better specs but they cost more. Its not like they are the same price but this product has garbage specs. This is more affordable and still has very good performance. It doesn't blow me away but it has not disappointed me either. I was concerned with the 4GB of RAM but it is not an issue at all. Its only an issue when you look at the number and think it should be higher. I would recommend this to anyone wanting something for media consumption and everyday use but not for a desktop experience.

Underrated

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The galaxy tab S4 is an amazing tablet which makes for it being an even better 2 in 1. I also own the galaxy book but this by far blows it away. This is android powered versus the book being a windows computer. The screen quality and watching movies on it is amazing AMOLED display and corner-to-corner 16:10 ratio makes everything you do look incredible. The battery life is great for my purposes, the use if it with the windows office apps makes completing tasks easy on the go. Checking emails while being able to have other apps open while reading makes it as efficient as a computer. It is lightweight, and the included S-Pen makes taking notes for class and in meetings. DeX allows you to instantly transform it into a perfect laptop. Highly recommend this tablet for all students, professionals, and people on the go.  I recieved this product from the insiders network at a discount for my review.

Great battery life

Bought this tablet to replace my Kindle Fire, and what a difference it has made! I originally bought the Kindle to serve as my multimedia device for when I get home after work and just want to watch some Netflix or Youtube. I did not know how spoiled I had been by my phone's AMOLED screen until I looked at the LCD screen of the Fire. Horrible viewing angles and less-than-satisfactory picture quality plague the Fire. I decided to upgrade to the Tab S4 for a considerably higher price, and was not disappointed. This tablet now has earned my appreciation, even getting about as much use as my school laptop due to its portability and the impressive Samsung DEX! Could not be more satisfied with my purchase.

Excellent tablet, I am pleasantly surprised daily!

I've had all the S series tablets but this one is amazing. I couldn't imagine the screen being any better but it is absolutely vibrant! The only thing I miss is the fingerprint sensor for logging onto apps. 

The pen is terrific and I bought the keyboard case and love it. It even holds the pen. I still wish the pen was held within the tablet like it used to be. The tablet is expensive, but like they say, you get what you pay for. This tablet does not disappoint. And don't forget about Dex. I use the tablet for media consumption, not work, but it's there for those that need it.

Better every year

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was lucky to get the opportunity to review this product as an insider. This tablet is unlike any others.  Upon opening the box it was extremely easy to set up.  Very user friendly, even if you don't have a lot of experience with electronics.  I have a small business and this tablet is great for being on the go.  Fast processor, works just like a large laptop in a more portable size.   Wonderful screen quality.  Perfect for my kids to watch videos on long plane rides.

Great tablet!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am quite impressed by the Tab S4. I had an idea of what to expect when I signed up for the tablet, however, I did not expect it to be as powerful as it is and have such a smooth interface. 

     Packaging is often and overlooked aspect of a product and I have to say that Samsung continually kills it. It is simple, clean, and ascetically pleasing. The protective wrap that the Tab S4 comes in is a very nice touch, instead of the rigid plastic that is found on most other devices. 

     Once I had the Tab S4 setup I started to use it to do all the things I would use my phone for to see the comparison of the OS. I have to say that the user experience is far and away better than its competitors. I have been in the tech industry for over 15 years and have been heavily involved with mobile devices for the past 10 years. I may be biased due to using an Android based phone, however, the smooth and speedy performance, the vibrant screen, the stylus, and the battery life make this tablet a true winner for me. 

     I have also been using it in a professional capacity and bringing it to meetings instead of my laptop. Its small size and light weight make it an idea device for traveling. I am going to be taking a three hour flight in the coming weeks and I am excited to be able to leave my laptop at home and bring this with me instead. In my down time I have been coloring on it and I had forgotten how much joy and relaxation it brings. Another win from being an Insider!!

Clarity, Brightness, Features, and Design

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a full time college student, the ease of using a small computer-like device is helpful in so many ways. I've found using a small tablet with an attached keyboard is so much easier than lugging around a laptop along with books and other school supplies. That being said, I had high hopes for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. Here is my opinion on the product itself:

Right out of the box, the quality of the tablet is evident. A sleek, beautiful device, well packaged and inclusive with guides, USB to mini USB-C cable, wall adapter and sim card slot opener. 

The tablet has quite a bit of weight to it which is expected from a high quality Samsung device. It powers up smoothly with a little bit of a wait time, roughly about 1 minute for it to load completely which could take longer if you use the password feature on start up. 

The screen is absolutely gorgeous and the apps run fast and smooth. One of my favorite features on the tablet is DeX desktop which basically turns the tablet into a mini laptop. Apps are lined up like a standard computer. 

I was concerned that the tablet wouldn't support certain apps I needed to use for school such as Word and Power Point, however the apps were readily available and function just as they do on my laptop. 

The battery life for this tablet exceeded my expectations as well.  I put good use to it throughout the entire day, not only opening documents but watching videos and searching the net. The battery continued to last even through the evening as I used it to watch movies and play video games.

This tablet (like most laptops) has the ability to connect to any smart TV to make the screen bigger and it runs smoothly, mirroring a clear image of what is on the tablet.
My only complaint for this product is that it lacked a USB port. Bluetooth and wireless WiFi connection are available, which was helpful for pairing headphones and other devices. However, I was unable to connect a flash drive to download files I needed and I was unable to connect to a printer to get some documents I needed right away. 

If Samsung could somehow add this, they would have designed the perfect tablet for a typical college student.

Amazing as a tablet

Had been using the Tab S4 for few weeks, and am just impressed. First look of it gave a good feel before I even started using it. The bezel is really slim and with the 79% screen to body ratio, one of the first tablets with this. 

It is fast and responds fast. One of the awesome features is the DEX mode. when connected in DEX, the feel of entire system is as that of a Windows OS, as even any application that is opened has a CLOSE, Minimize and Maximize buttons on top right. But the slight hindrance of using it is that when DEX mode is initiated, the resolution of screen changes, making all icons smaller, hence the font and icon sizes needed to be changed. There were times when  tablet wouldnt switch to DEX mode when when its connected to the keypad grooves. Like Samsung Flow app

Still miss not having fingerprint login feature. The Camera for face recognition is at the top, but as I always open it horizontally, the hand always blocks the camera. Would have liked if the Facial Recognition camera is located elsewhere. Sometimes, even when I look straight at the camera, face isnt recognized, which is a bummer sometimes. 

Talking about the S Pen, first of all, dont have to pay extra for the Pen which is good. The Pen connectivity is the old style, so there is no need to worry about charging it. the screen responds fast with taps using the Pen. Since I also have the Note 9, I just use Note 9 pen on the Tab S4. 

One of the Cons that I noticed was that when I start playing the Fortnite when tablet is connected to the keyboard, as the game starts, it just closes with an error message that the Input device isnt compatible, was kicked out of atleast 10 games due to this reason, until i finally realized that it was the keyboard. 

Battely lasts long time. Even when playing game on max resolution, was able to play for about 4 hours. Was able to watch videos for about 6 hours.

Tablet also comes with Kids Mode installed, which blocks out access to the other apps when turned on(a best feature when having kids who always want to watch videos)

Also other disappointing thing is that there are few apps that wont even launch on the Tab S4, when they have no issues launching on other android devices. They always crash when launched. 

All in all, a bold new venture for tablets, and a starting step to reach a bezel-less screen in the future. Reviewing as an Insider

A tablet with ease of use as a Laptop

I just purchased the new Samsung Tab S4 and was excited to explore.  After spending entire night to configure, update all software, etc, I tried the tab for a while and was happy with.  Unfortunately, as trying to change my pass code, as well as trying to use Lock Screen, Biometric Face Recognition, etc.  all those features greyed out.  I kept search tech supports, online google, the only option is to … "manufactory reset".  Even this feature was disabled/greyed out on my brand-new tab s4, that I had to do hard reset by pressing Power + Volume Key.  
- Another disadvantage is no Physical Home Button, that I had to guess where the virtual home button is.  
- The cover-keyboard by Samsung also has bad design that it cannot hold the S-pen or does not have even a lock to keep the S-pen.  The S-pen fell off the "holder" and was dropping tip down directly to the floor damaged.

Although the tab itself is great with many updates, some primary features still face major defects or should be improved/redesigned.  I would hope some of my comments should go to the design team or marketing team to revisit.
