Seems to have covered my gray hairline and part-line well on my 3c/4a hair. I shampooed with aloe vera shampoo, applied color and a plastic cap and let it sit for 30 minutes. I rinsed it well until the water ran clear then applied a moisturizing conditioner. I'm impressed that it covered my grays.

I have bought this on the recommendation of the person in the beauty supply store, but I cannot read the instructions, which are in like one point type white on an almost white background. Who hired this stupid designer? I'm giving this three stars on the assumption that it probably works, but I'm gonna have to throw it away, because there are no instructions.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The directions on the bottle, which include the processing time, are not readable.  The font is white on a beige label, which alone makes it barely legible.  And the font type size is the smallest I've ever seen on a hair color bottle.  I had to take a picture of the bottle and enlarge it to read how long to leave it in.  Clairol should consider who this product is marketed to.

So I thought to try this in the color of Rich Dark Brown.  Since I'm recovering from permanent hair color damage, and returning to a darker shade, I figured this would be closer to my natural color, medium brown/auburn-ish hair.  Well, that's not what happened.



I will give credit where credit is do.  This product did the job in covering my gray hair very effectively.  HOWEVER....the color result was very dark.  Which I say very dark, the color looks blue/black.  It was/is a shock to me because have never had black hair...not even my natural color.  So I'm a little bummed, but its going to grow on my until it fades.  Lesson learned....a 2 is closer to black on the hair color spectrum...I need something closer to a 4.  But I will be trying this product again in another color because, like I know all so well, my disrespectful gray hairline will be back.

Clairol Professional

I've never written a review before, but was so horrified by what this did to my hair, I felt I had to. I had been growing out my gray for 6+ months and wanted to soften the grow-out line between my dyed brown and silver by using a semi-permanent dye over my roots. While this left a slight brown tinge to the hair closest to my scalp (fine), it left a ring of completely unnatural "Gatorade"-bright yellow all about my crown that I have been completely unable to wash out. My hair has been washed at least 15 times--with dandruff shampoo, clarifying shampoo, baking soda+clarifying shampoo, vitamin c+clarifying shampoo, and, finally, ColorOops--and nothing has budged it. AT ALL. Not a shade! While I had been prepared for this dye not to cover gray particularly well, I was not at all prepared to be left with anything that would not wash out--especially HIGHLIGHTER YELLOW.  I don't use any unusual products in my hair--really, hardly any styling products at all--and my hair was clean when I applied this. Really, this is the worst of all outcomes, for it looks like my 6 months of grow out is wasted as I'll have to use permanent dye to cover this. Infuriating.

Horrible

First I couldn't read the instructions due to the Font color on background. I used my phone to see if that would help and the instructions are not in English. The bottle is in English. After reading other comments, it's safe to say you should list the instructions on the site/comments section, at this point. It's very inconvenience to ask customers to call for something that should be available when purchase d. I can't rate quality because I haven't used!

Re: Clairol Professional BC Beautiful Collection Advanced Gray Solution. Color: 1A Midnight Black.  Today is 07/21/25. I purchased this product and used a very small portion to treat my gray/white hairline. No more than a teaspoon amount needed and applied with a professional hair dye brush. Thia is a product that I am returning to the store where purchased.  The color is not a true black. It is titled Midnight 1A. It is a brown black not a black black. If you put a couple of drops in your white sink, use a hair color brush to lightly spread it out, you will see the red/brown tone that is dominant.
In turn I was able to find at another online source the Clairol Jazzing - Color: Bluest Black. it is not a harsh black. It is balanced to color the smallest white hairline hairs, not tint the skin and is a gentle color of black.  I tell you what though,  if Clairol could find their way to bring back Clairol Glorious Grays and put it on the market, that would be a company winner. I'm certain it woud be profitable for you especially since gray  has been and is a sought after color today in the 21st century, Clairol glorious SMOKE......also Clairol PEARL. PEARL gave the mixed in gray hair a pearl sheen as if you used a translucent pearl nail polish.  The Clairol SMOKE was an unbeatable coverage that turned a salt and pepper head of hair into a "Glorious" tone.  I am 74 years old and when in my teens I did my mother's hair ( in her fifties ) with brilliant results. I know....you say "Why don't you go to a professional hairdresser that will bleach you whole head and give you a gray tone?"  Answer, I choose not the bleach my hair or dye my hair. I am more comfortable with semi-permanent products. They work well for me once I find the right color(s) available.  Please take to heart what I have said about Glorious Grays. Do something companies never do....resurrect a good product.

It was dissappointing for me.

I purchased the Beautiful Collection "advanced gray solution" semi-permanent in the color of Level 1- Black on 4/23/2017 and 04/24/2017. I can still see the gray around the crown  of my head. I follow the instructions to the letter and the color in the back took really well. Timer and all! It left my hair really dry, dull, & hard to the touch.  I had to condition my hair with my JOICO conditioner to soften my hair. 



I would not recommend this product if you are trying to cover gray hair.

No coverage where it counts!
