This is a budget rowing machine. It does it's job just fine. I don't understand the complaints about too little resistance. The only explanation is that these people are new rowers who do not understand how it works? This is not a resistance weight lifting machine. It's a rower. Try rowing with a resistance of 32 all out effort for 5min and then tell me it has no resistance. You're crazy. My only complaint is that it has no on-machine metrics. You do have to use a phone or device to connect to it. Everyone has a smartphone… so not really an issue. You do not have to pay a subscription to access your metrics, just select freestyle mode. I would like to save money and use apple fitness instead of echelon, but then that would require using 2 devices at once. One to access metrics. And another for apple fitness instructor/workout. For this, -1star.

I'm lucky I paid $297 because of I spent the full amount to get this machine I'd be raising heck with echelon. Pros - Easy to put together out of the box and takes up very little room in my home gym. Cons - Very disappointed in the lack of resistance. Also there are no workouts available unless you sign up for the subscription. I'm very disappointed overall. I guess I'm just going to have to be stuck with it's too much of a headache to ship back. Don't pay full price, not worth it.

The resistance is not strong enough to get a very good workout. I feel like I can row this all day without getting much resistance for my muscles and cardio may even be difficult as my heart rate isn't climbing as much as I would like.  So, great for a light workout.  Not great to push hard with.

Great price, but not enough resistance.

Bought this on cyber monday for $297 thinking it was a solid deal. It was delivered quickly and was pretty easy to put together. The build quality is good short of the phone holder which feels like it will wear out rather quickly with heavy use.  The machine rows nicely and is somewhat easy to stow and move around.

The good ends there. 

First you realize you cant use the app without making an account which you can't do from the app. Then you try to make an account but it prompts you to choose a membership. Stop there and just sign into the app. Dont be fooled into thinking you have to select the free membership to continue.

The app is pretty basic and useless without a membership. You have to select the free workout from the extras menu to start. The bluetooth syncs up rather easily but the light flashes the brightest most obnoxious blue so I ended up putting tape over it.

Once connected it will show your stats, but they are super small and at the bottom of the screen. The majority of the screen is taken up by ads for the membership classes.  It was too small for my phone so I had to grab an old iPad to really see the stats.  Sometimes the stats dont work or dont display correctly. In that case you have to disconnect the bluetooth and try again. I have no idea how accurate the data is but I find it hard to believe it's correct with how buggy it is. 

The resistance doesn't go all that high and they imprinted their name on the top of the metal track so the wheel feels like its rolling over dirt or something a lot of the time. I'm 6'4" and I tend to bump the back of the track which is annoying and takes me out of the groove. 

I wouldnt buy it again. Just hoping it will keep me active during the cold months in Ohio. I'd return it but it will be impossible to put back in the box and is too large for my car. Gonna suck it up in the meantime and chalk it off as a lesson learned.

Don't be mislead by the incentivized reviews

The resistance is weak. It doesn't have any screen so to look at the metrics for strokes and resistance you will have to download the echelon app which is useless. The app doesn't show resistance even if i crank it up all the way up. I don't know how many meters i rowed or how long. I cannot set up any workouts in the rower itself which you can do at the gym or even on other machines like trade-mill or cycle. 
I chatted with the customer service and their response to it was just the paragraph read from the FAQ section on echelon website. Not a fan and i am going to return it

Skip this machine and get something else!

The app that goes with this rower is terrible.   I have tried a few classes and the music track sometimes plays two songs at once so loudly you can't hear the instructor.  Hopefully yhe freestlye function of the app will work once my free trial lapses, because otherwise this machine will be useless with no ability to see metrics.

rower app not great!

Be warned! The machine does not come with a display and though it can easily connect to the app through a phone or tablet, you CANNOT access your readout (RPMs, distance, intensity, etc.) without paying for a monthly subscription to the company. I wish I would have known this before hand and WOULD NOT recommend this machine to anyone.

I thought the tension adjustment was faulty but according to Echelon Customer Support, for this machine to work properly users must have: 1) an active membership(1st 30 days free), 2) a credit card stored on file,

Important details left out of product description!

Bought on Jan 3rd. Delivered within a week. But resistance can't change with the app or stats won't show up in the app under free ride. Then purchase the membership still the same issue. Seems most of these rowers are not working its not the subscription issue like people think. Speed sensors are not working out of the box.
