Very good vacuum. I like that you can use the power head just attached to the hose for stairs etc. The powered forward motion of the brush is a bit strong and is a little difficult to pull backwards until you get used to it. Probably could do without that feature. Strong suction for deep cleaning.

Awesome vacuum!

This vacuum far out preforms my Dyson. The amount  of suction is great. It's easy to use, love all the options and a a clean freak girlie this meets all my requirements and more.

We already had a Shark Navigator (NV650) that's several years old and still working well but figured that it was time for an upgrade. The Vertex is an upgrade in several ways, first the increased suction, then the number of available attachments. We ordered the pet attachment kit featuring a spinning furniture roller that does a nice job of removing pet hair from sofas etc. and other functional extensions that can be seen on this web site and our included photo. 
The lift-away canister on both models improves mobility over fixed canister models because the weight of it doesn't have to be moved back and forth when cleaning floors. Some people may not like the idea of both hands being occupied when vacuuming so you can leave it attached. Everything clicks together on this machine - it's well designed. Foam filters are washable and there is no separate replaceable HEPA filter on the Vertex like on the lower front of the Navigator, the Vertex HEPA filter is under its foam dust filter in photo. For some reason the Vertex foam filter doesn't soil as quickly as the foam filter in our Navigator . It seems that the improved design of the canister contains the dust better without passing as much of it to the filter. The soft roller on the Vertex cleans hard floors better than the Navigator's brush roller that's intended for carpet. Since we don't have any carpet this is a big plus, but I'm not saying that the Vertex is only for use on hard floors. The L.E.D. lights on the roller housing are great for illuminating dust and pet hair on hard floors providing that the floor isn't a light color.
I recommend this vacuum as it simplifies floor cleaning and the cord is long enough to vacuum our 1638 sq. ft. home when we plug it in the hallway.

My last Shark was great and was miles ahead of the Dyson I had but this one defies words.  It is even better!  I will never look back.

Best Shark so far

I have a central vacuum and felt like it wasn't doing a great job on the carpets. I mainly bought this to help out in that aspect. This thing is powerful! The amount of hair and dust it picked out of the carpet that my other one was missing was crazy! Only thing is that it is pretty bulky and pulls forward when on carpet. It may be hard for an older person to use as it gets tiring on your arm. I like that it doesn't have alot of electrical sensors and gadgets. It's basic and does the job! Would reccomend!

Powerful!

Would give the rating a 4.5 out of 5 if I could.  At this time, the only design flaw that could be improved upon is to have a base release pedal.  It would be more intuitive and easier to work the vacuum.  Currently you have to step on the base and pull downward which feels like you may break the vacuum.     Have been using the vacuum for approx. 4 weeks thus far.

Good vacuum for the price point.

I've used my new Vertex Shark twice to get up the cat hair on my berber carpet.   I love the suction and the fins/rollers, easy empty. The attachments will be useful.   I'm having a hard time with the self propelling.  Going forward is great. Pulling back on the vacuum is hard. Its difficult for my neck, hands, shoulders, and wrists. I tried going in circles around the room (to always be in forward motion) but it's not feasible.  I would like to see a button by the handle to quickly press and  easily disengage the rollers to pull it back. Another think is the buttons are hard for arthritic fingers.  I'm using my 90 days to evaluate if I will keep this purchase.

Perfect household vacuum

We bought this vacuum after watching the TV infomercial.  After having a Shark vacuum for years, this was the perfect upgrade! Yea...Nope.  The suction did not compare to what was shown on TV.  In fact, the new blades on the roller were so ineffective, my wife vacuumed the floor with the DuoClean, and than with the older model, only to find the older model picked up MORE dirt and hair than the newer model!! Why do we need to vacuum twice?! The PowerFins don't work as advertised, unfortunately...We love Shark, but this was a BUST!! Shark did return our money, as advertised, but come on...why make an inferior product at a higher price?! I do not believe the pool ball test after seeing it in person.  The DuoClean also felt very cheap and unreliable compared to our older model of 5+ years! We changed all the filters of our old Shark and it works WAY better than the DuoClean...
