Bought the Pink version for my adorable wife. This is her first set of ANC, over ear headphones and she loves them. I have been buying these headphones for a few years now and wear them constantly. My first were the three's, then the four's and I presently own the five's. I converted from Samsung phones since the first Xperia 1 and presently still using the Mark V. Looking to get the VIII which is when I will hopefully get my XM6's. I have alot of Sony products in my house, so yes, I would recommend this product whole heartedly if you want a well rounded set of headphones. They do everything you would expect if a flagship product.

A Definite Buy

I’ve been using the Sony WH-1000XM5, and honestly, it feels like stepping into silence whenever I put them on.
The noise cancelling is insanely good. When you’re on a bus, train, or even around people talking, it just fades everything out. It actually makes you notice how noisy your environment was before 😄
Sound-wise, it’s clean and smooth, but not perfect out of the box. I had to tweak the EQ a bit to get that punchy bass I like. After that, it sounds amazing.
Comfort is where it really wins for me. I can wear it for hours without any pain or pressure. That matters more than you think.

Awesome sound Quality

I decided that it was time to upgrade to a really great set of wireless, circumoral headphones.  Lots of great choices out there right now, but I narrowed my list down to the Sony® WH-1000XM5, or the Apple® Airpods Max.

I tested both.  Both sound fantastic, and worth the high price.

But I went with Sony.

>> Sound quality is 100% first class. All the frequencies are in perfect balance, and the difficult-to-get-right midrange is studio-perfect.

>> Packed with peerless technology, e.g. the headphones know when they are on or off your head, and when off they can automatically pause whatever you're listening to.

>> The active noise cancelling is absolutely superb.  Press a button and all exterior sounds are gone. For me, this feature works better than physical ear plugs, believe it or not.

>> Control the volume and other settings with gestures.  Swipe up and down on the right-side cup for volume control, etc. You also have the option to use voice commands.

>> Not 1, not 2 -- 8 microphones!  So you can make calls with these babies with 100% confidence.  This microphone abundance contributes much to the excellent active noise cancelling.

A bit disappointed that Sony decided to go with a plastic frame with instead of metal with WH-1000XM5. The Airpods Max headphones have a steel frame.  The plastic parts of my old (and legendary) Sony MDR V6 headphones actually started to crumble after a few years.  Steel doesn't have that problem.

Also disappointing:  The Sony Headphone Connect app is for mobile devices only.  I am a PC man.   A PC version would have been optimal.

NB1: As with all Apple products, headphone features work great with Apple software and hardware, and have certain drawbacks when used with PCs.  Sony doesn't have that drawback, and I am a Windows / PC person.

NB2: A full charge will give you 30 hours a play with the Sony WH-1000XM5. Apple Airpods Max = 20 hours with a full charge.

Sony® WH-1000XM5: Pricey, but worth it.

The XM5s are honestly the best headphones I’ve used so far. I went from store to store trying to figure out which pair to buy, but a friend recommended these, and the moment I tried them, they went straight into my cart. The sound quality is unreal, especially the bass and noise cancelling. So cool.

I purchased these headphones during the Black Friday sale and was initially impressed with their performance. Upon testing, I found them to be lightweight with a secure fit and exceptional active noise cancellation capabilities. The overall sound quality and design met my expectations.
However, within one week of use, I noticed a hairline fracture developing on the ear cup. Upon investigation, I discovered this appears to be a widespread manufacturing defect, with numerous user reports documenting similar issues. Given the prevalence of this problem, I made the difficult decision to return the headphones rather than risk receiving another pair with the same defect.
While the product offers good value for the price point, the structural integrity issue is a significant concern that warrants resolution before purchase. Potential buyers should be aware that the durability of this model remains questionable until the manufacturing defect is addressed.

Strong Features, Serious Structural Concerns

The headphones worked flawlessly for about 22 months. I was very happy with the sound quality, the battery life and the comfort. I'd use these at my desk daily for work and the microphone was great for conference calls. Then after less than 2 years the headset just snapped. They weren't dropped or thrown or anything more than just placed back on the table and snapped. I was shocked that this expensive of headphones would fall apart in that short of a time period. My older XM3 and XM4 models lasted much longer than these.

They were great until they weren't

My package arrived with the box broken or torn open. Headphones that cost hundreds of dollars were clearly visible. There was minimal packing materials inside to protect the product. It's hard to verify whether I even received a new item because of the condition of the shipment. It's a miracle I got to the package in my lobby before someone grabbed the headphones straight out of the box.

Yes, packages get damaged in transit, but quality packing is a huge part of deterring that. It's also a choice to use FedEx. Just know that your stuff might not arrive correct. Might be safer to purchase from a different seller.

As soon as I these headphones arrived I was advised to download the Sony app which told me I had to update the firmware. I have now been stuck in a faulty firmware loop, with the headphones no longer able to pair over bluetooth. I  am getting advice from 3x ai systems to try and unlock the headphones. So I have been unable to use them since I bought them. If I ever mange to get out of this nightmare I'll let you know if these lovely looking headphones actually work well and I'll update my rating!
