As a long term lover of the Dune books, with this being reignited by the recent cinematic adaptations the Ornithopter has always been a key Dune vehicle and the version in the latest films has really been brought to life so when Lego produced this version it was always a must have and I have not been disappointed with the additional ability to operate the wings, fold the wings and retract the landing gear and ramp it is an amazing version of the on screen vehicle. If you are a fan of the Dune series then I think this is a must and even if you are you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic Ornithopter

The Dune Ornithopter was one of the first large sets I've boughten in years and boy I was not disappointed! With a very respectable price tag, a challenging yet satisfying build, and most of all, an absolutely cool looking set with very neat features (especially the wings) I would recommend this set 10 times out of 10.

Amazing set that every hobbyist needs!

This was easily the most challenging sets I've built. I like that and the Technic aspects were nice. Love the flappable wings. Great collection of minifigs and it looks great on a shelf.

Great for Play or Display

A very satisfying build with amazing mechanics inside. A brick is pretty much a rectangle and yet they manage to get 8 wings, acting in unison, all at different angles, none of them 90 degrees. Must have been a tremendous challenge to create. But they did it. One of the better builds

Nice display it's very large in length but there's an option to put the wings to the side

So so much fun

This is a very challenging set to build. The instructions are clear but the mechanism that flaps the wings does not seem to operate correctly. It was only by reviewing other review sites that I realized that my construction was probably correct. I wish there was some way to stand the mini figures such as an extra Lego flat piece. If you don't have a flat surface they won't stand up. Still a challenging build but needs a lot of space to display.

Interesting Build

Great set with a lot of moving parts . Worth the price!

Brilliant and intricate design that when complete, looks amazing on a display shelf. The feature of having the wings extended or 'tucked in' is such a neat addition that makes play, and display equally fantastic. 
Mini figs are great and if they do decide to release more DUNE sets in the future, the playability will be great. Yes, Lego, that is a hint to release more big DUNE sets!

The cons: A very fiddly build that had a number of awkward moments where it felt like the slightest bit of additional pressure would snap the entire build in half. Probably the most stressful build I've ever done to be perfectly honest. The rotors do come slightly bent, which makes it annoying for perfectionists that want that symmetrical look. Lastly, it's jarring having many exposed colour pieces on this set. I'm not sure if the designers did this to make the build easier when connecting certain bricks, but having red and blue pieces visible really does take away from how gorgeous this design is.

Great value for money. Lots of playability. Easy to display. Could be better.

Lisan Al Gaib

This build is amazing. Let's get that out of the way first. The techniques and mechanisms were quite interesting and very enjoyable to build. But the set has a few issues.

The biggest issue I have, is that all the new wing elements came warped. They all bend to one side. And they all bend the same direction. This is fine for one side of the craft as it is somewhat hidden by the natural give from other components, but on the other side it is accentuated by the same give in the mechanisms.
The second issue is that this model is peppered, once again, with technicolor technic axels and technic pins. It really stands out in a build that is mostly monochrome.

Was extremely disappointed in the overtechnicality of this set. It ruined a potentially great addition to my collection. I relegated it to being thrown back in the box. A single mistake undid hours of work.
