Shakespeare Reverb Spinning Combo - 5'6" is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pole Bought 3 of them last year for my family. I put braided line on them and use them saltwater fishing. Caught a lot of stripers, big blues and various other fish with these poles and they're still going strong. Super low cost and very sturdy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Value...For What It Is I live in Corpus Christi, Texas. I bought this little guy to use for in-shore species. Wade fishing for flounder and spotted trout--what we call speckled trout down here. Removed all the line it came with and replaced it with 15 pound Power Pro braid. I make leaders using 20 pound monofilament. I give this four stars--for what it is: a light-tackle, entry-level rod/reel combo. This combo IS NOT built nor is it intended for fishing in extreme conditions or, for fishing with heavier tackle. I use it for working light top-water lures for spotted trout. Working live shrimp under a poppoing cork. Or bouncing a dual rig (bucktail and teaser) off of the bottom. Wednesday, October 11th I took this combo out and in a rather fast current, too. Worked the popping cork just fine. It doesn't have the length to really WHIP the lighter tackle out there but, it was adequate. Got some decent casts, even into the wind. Then, I bounced a 1/4 ounce and then, a 1/2 ounce bucktail off of the bottom with no issues. I went up to a full ounce bucktail plus the teaser and, I lost the ability to bounce the rig off of the bottom with finesse. So if you plan to flounder jig with a bucktail and a GULP! teaser, I say: stay at 3/4 ounce and under on the bucktail. No bites of note that evening so, I can't speak on that--all my hits were really under sized. Like tiny, baby fish. If you are looking to get someone into fishing, maybe teaching them the basics, I'd say this is a safe buy. Come on people...it costs eleven bucks. So it's okay if it gets dunked or, dinked. From this you can get them the PENN Pursuit II combo (at Wal-Mart) costs about 40 bucks. Not truly entry-level. Next step up. Just my two cents. Good luck fishing. Keep those lines tight.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Reel is no good. The pole on this combo was good but the break on the reel broke after only a few trips out.
