Shanneyganock - Rockin' On The Water
Description & Features+
"Rockin' On The Water" the latest CD by Shanneyganock, is by far the strongest and best work that the band has done to date. The sound and songs harken back to earlier CD's that featured high energy songs with a mostly Newfoundland flavour. The first single "Rockin' On The Water" , written by Newfoundlander Angus Stewart, is being played in high rotation at radio and is causing the switchboard to light up with requests. As is the trademark of Shanneyganock, the party atmosphere of their Live shows carries through to the CD. The powerful vocals of Chris Andrews punctuates the recording, while the voice and accordian of Mark Hiscock gives the record the distinct Newfoundland sound. Shanneyganock is able to find some diamonds in the rough each time they embark on a new recording project and this time is no exception. "Home Boys Home" written by Darrell Power (Great Big Sea) sets the tone for the CD. "A Simple Life" a Ricky Scaggs song is given a Newfoundland flavour and Chris does a great cover of the Bruce Springsteen song "If I Should Fall Behind" as well as "Valley Lights" by Frank Hennessey. J.P. Cormier's song "Great Harbour Deep" tells about the resettlement of a Newfoundland community, whilst "The Anti Confederation Song' speaks about the troubled times and the opposition to the union with Canada. "The Doryman" (written by Mark Hiscock) & "Little Boats Of Newfoundland" (written by Roy Payne) tells about the perils and hardships of working for a living on the sea. This CD as with all Shanneyganock recordings will have your heart racing even if you're not dancing.
