Right in the middle of a project for my 8-year-old granddaughter, my 40+ year-old sewing machine died. I was in a bind because I had a promise to keep, so I started looking for an affordable machine to replace the old one. If it did a few things more than just sewing a straight seam, that would be okay, too. My grandmother was a professional seamstress, and we had always owned Singers before. However, I thought a different brand might be more in my price range this time. To my pleasant surprise, I found this Singer machine at an even lower price than I was ready to pay. I read all the reviews, and decided to give it a try. It sews like a dream. There are 70 choices of stitches, and these can be varied by changing stitch length and width. The needle threader works everytime. The drop-in bobbin is easy to change. There is a good basic assortment of presser feet, and if one of these doesn't suit your purpose, there are others available at what seems to be a fair price. The users manual is informative, but I wish it were indexed a little more thoroughly to make it easier to find a specific topic. I would have liked the work light a little brighter, too. I am pleased that Singer has kept its quality over the years. (I still have my great-grandmother's 1902 Singer -- wouldn't she be surprised to see this new one!)

its an amazing machine, but I would prefer if it had a customize CD to use this particular model, as I bought it for my mother and she can not read and follow instructions from CD, however the CD was generalized for all models and that confused my Mom to make the best use of this amazing machine.

Singer 7256

Out if the box, the machine worked excellently. Much research went into locating a simple machine to operate, but with tons of features, for a fair price. This is a great product. Singer still lives up to its reputation.

Excellent quality, and loaded with features.

I choose this machine because it looked like it would be user friendly. It has been many years sinceI've sewn and wanted to get started again. It is very easy to thread the bobbin, and after working on it awhile the needle threader. It has been very easy to choose different stiches and to change the needle. It is also very lightweight. Good instructions.

I have been sewing for 45 years now, not for a living but as a hobbie, and this machine is the one!
The self threading needle the many stiches, just everything. I just love this machine, can't wait to get many hours of sewing on this machine!

Beatiful machine!

I haven't owned a sewing machine in years but this one makes it very easy to get back into sewing. Easy to use and I love the automatic needle threader! Very happy with my new Singer so far!

Great sewing machine

I am excited to have this new machine and try out all the decorative stitches. The instructional DVD that is included is wonderful and great to have so i can review it when i need to.

Love it

I love my new Singer Fashion Mate!
But it is all relative - all this wonderful technology did not exist on the treadle Singer machine I learned to sew on at school sixty five years ago or on my White machine I bought over fifty years ago and which I had been using steadily until two weeks ago.
I thought the learning curve might be steep on the new machine but the manual is well written and illustrated and I quickly mastered bobbin winding, automatic threading and have been having so much fun hemming pants, finishing a patchwork quilt and making napkins with decorative edgings. It sews beautifully on the cotton, denim and polyester I've used and I can't wait to start my next project.
My sixteen year old grandson asked if he could have my old machine as he wanted to learn to sew but I said I would buy him one just like mine.

I had given my old Singer to my daughter because I was not sewing as much, but now I have begun again. I looked over many products, but decided on Singer

Wanted a new sewing machine, decide on the 7256

I bought this machine and took it home for the weekend. It is amazing. I love all the features. I am an avid seamstress and I really bought it for the buttonhole features (8 one step buttonhole options). They are amazing. I noticed on other reviews that people said it doesn't work with heavier fabrics. I thought this would be layers of denim or heavy canvas. I tried to sew a buttonhole on cotton pants I made - a fairly lightweight cotton twill, generally like the weight of a pair of summer khakis, and it wouldn't stitch through. I changed needles to a denim and then a leather needle, and it still wouldn't sew. It was with some regret I decided to return this machine but it just doesn't sew on fabric more durable than sheers or very lightweight fabrics. I think this would have been a great machine if the makers had put a little more effort into it. Final review: DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU PLAN TO SEW CLOTHES BUT IT MAY BE OKAY FOR HEMMING etc

Buy the Next Singer up

I am a beginner when it comes to sewing and I just don't think this purchase was wise for me. I was about 2 hours into sewing when the error for the needle jam came up and it just was stuck and there was getting it unstuck. Then when I tried to use the 1 step buttonhole, it went downhill from there.
