Snow Joe Ultra 14-Amp Electric Snow Thrower - 21 Inch is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Use Well we finally got a snowfall in Winnipeg this season to test out this snow blower. Four to six inches in total of what for the most part was light snow but became a bit wetter as the system moved on. Our driveway is approx 20 feet wide and 18 feet long with an additional 15 foot wide lane at the end of it. Coming home last night I had to drive through the snow, so expected packed tracks on the concrete where the car had been. For anyone familiar with operating a corded lawn mower, operating tho snowblower will be relatively easy. For newcomers, the basic rule is to work away from where you have the cord plugged in. If the plug is behind you to the left, work to the right. The only other factor is the wind direction. You may or may not be able to direct the chute down wind, so dress accordingly. This machine was very easy to handle. It took a couple of minutes to get the speed with which you can walk it through the snow just right. Too slow and you will see right away it does not throw any snow. For the snow conditions I was working with, I soon found a walking pace that produced a consistent 15 foot throw of snow, which was perfect, dropping it in the yard about halfway between the driveway and the house. If you push to aggressively, you will lift the back end of the blower from the ground. I found the scraper blade and the auger blades could cut the packed snow right to the concrete, but decided to save that work for the tidy up with the shovel and broom after I had finished blowing the snow clear. I estimate it only took about 20% of the time it normally would have taken me to clean the driveway this morning. An absolute treat at minus 28 Celcius and a minus 36 windchill. It was definitely worth getting this machine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Solution to Snow Removal I bought this product when the first of several snow falls began to occur in the Northeast near Boston, MA. I really like not having to deal with fuel, starting, fumes or weight. I was looking for an electric thrower with the largest width with the lowest amps performance. Also, I am 6'6". I read the assembled height/handle height being around 47". Shoveling is really hard on my back due to my height. The other electric throwers in the market are shorter and have a smaller width. I liked that the auger blades are steel with what looks to be replaceable rubber paddles rather than plastic or metal paddles. Finally the SJ24E was on sale with free shipping at Read the manual since this was my first electric thrower. Assembly was easy. What I like about the SJ24E is the lightweight makes carrying up stairs easy. I have used the thrower to clear the back deck, the walkways, and driveway of my rental. I first used the thrower to clear my deck from three snow falls, totaling two feet of old snow (fluffy snow does compact). I lifted and ran the blower on top, taking the top layer off, then able to remove bottom layer. I was impressed with the ease and amount of snow removed from the deck. Now with new snow, I try keep ahead of the snow, using the SJ24E several times during a snow fall. I have cleared near 40 inches of new snow, both fluffy, medium and even the slush at the end of the driveway. Yes, the thrower easily throws fluffy 10 inch deep snow 20-25 feet. Yes, when the snow is denser, you have to go slower or even shave the snow rather than taking in a full 21 inch bite. The heavier snow and even the slush is going to be thrown shorter, but is so much easier than shovel throwing. You will see the snow throw shorter as well as the engine rpm-whine lower as the motor works harder on the heavier snow. Yes, this uses a belt and is an electric motor, pace yourself, don't keep running into packed snow. Use a shovel to pull down high or packed snow as well as clean up. There has usually been a thin covering left on the driveway simply because of the wind and snow pack. Our walkway is decades old pavers which I catch a edge, so cleaning down to the paver has happened, I have done it once, and again tonight, did not happen. Our deck is older with nail heads, so I catch nail heads if not careful. Therefore, the deck is cleared to the wood in places. Be realistic. We are getting over twenty inches every Monday(Today was third) and will be getting another snow fall this weekend. The driveway is visible in patches, but otherwise is not visible due to conditions. I have cleaned to the pavement when the temperature was warmer. The point is to remove the bulk of the snow. This thrower reminds me of a vacuum cleaner both in noise level and cord management. Find your system of moving the cord. I use good 14/3 and 12/3 SJTW cords which can be stiff in the cold, but I am able to whip, pull and wind up fine during 20-30F . I was planning on purchasing a longer cord so I do not have to plug two and drag a connection behind me. Compared to shoveling, I am really, really happy with my purchase. I do feel the workout is in the upper body and shoulders rather the lower back in the denser snow or I am pushing into snow banks. Oh, once in a while I catch a brief whiff of that warm vacuum belt smell and usually, for me, I stop the thrower, and go and check the plug which I have pulled loose but not out of the outlet. I have not got that electric motor smell from overworking the thrower. The smell might be unrelated to good connection or current draw. Thus the need for a longer cord. I am still learning. I suppose I would have liked a onboard light, but I used a headlamp. I have not had to clear out the thrower's shoot as yet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chute crank handle is too short The handle on the crank does not extend past the brace on the handle of the unit, so the crank cannot rotate. It needs to be about an inch longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Investment!!! I was concerned about this product when I purchased it because it was electric and I thought it wouldn't be strong enough for the Michigan winters we have been having. The day it arrived we hadn't had a snow fall in weeks and I thought we were done. The following day we got a record amount of snow. Which forced me to use it three times that day! And it truly performed up to my standards and I am very happy with my purchase. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants the performance of a snow thrower but doesn't want to deal with gas and oil.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 20 ft throw only in a 40 mph cross wind I have tried this unit with both fluffy snow and denser snow. The main problem is that it only seems capable of throwing snow about 5 ft max. And that means that you are moving the same snow multiple times as you clear your driveway. With wetter snow the chute clogs and you need to clear it out frequently. It wasn't getting down to the ground as far as I'd hoped, as the specs suggested it would. With wetter snow the chute swivel froze when water seeped in between the two layers of plastic. I needed to use a hair drier on it to thaw out the swivel. It's not a bad unit but the short throw is a real drawback.
