Ratings & Reviews+

SONY Alpha a3000 Camera with 1855mm Lens (ILCE3000KB) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal price for this excellent camera Picked this camera up a the beginning of the year, and it was an absolute steal at $350-400. Anyone who has done their research knows, Sony crammed a DSLR sensor into this little thing(the same ones they make for nikon). And a good one at that. You give up the bells and whistles to come in at under $300, no touch screen, no wifi, mediocre screen and EVF, but there are no compromises made in image quality/ability/functions. Image quality is top notch, and flat out unmatched at this price point, you have to go to cameras costing twice as much before they compare. Sony's mirrorless cameras are smaller, lighter and cheaper. The perfect beginner DSLR to buy for yourself or someone else to learn about photography.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lights, camera, action! I bought this camera to replace an old camera and since I just had my first little I didn't want to miss a thing. Well I am was pleasantly pleased. This is my first SLR camera and I definitely still figuring out all of the options I am enjoying figuring it out. My only complaint is the larger lens is about the same price of the camera! I am hoping that if I am patient I will find it on sale somewhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bridges the gap between point and shoot and a DSLR I purchased this camera instead of spending a bit more money on a Canon DSLR. I learned soon that there is a bit more compromise in the overall feel and ultimate performance that has me returning this camera and upgrading. If you are used to point and shoot cameras, you will like this camera very much. Menus are well thought out, performance is decent with good low light processing that keeps those darker shots clean without the digital noise that compact cameras are so prone to having a problem with. However I used to own a DSLR and have used several over the years. Having come from that area and being used to the smooth lens operation and high level of performance - this offering from Sony is a little bit of a letdown. As I said in the title, it bridges the gap between the point and shoot type cameras, better than the average digital camera to be sure... but just not quite up to what you get with a Canon, Nikon or even a higher end Sony.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full featured, easy to use and lightweight I am an avid amateur and I love my new camera. Amazing value. The image quality is top notch. You have to expect and understand that the LCD display is not high-end and the electronic viewfinder is OK: small and has some update artifacts. But it HAS an EV! The menu system is geared to the less experienced users, but it allows total control of an amazing set of features. It has every imaginable setting, and then some, like registering faces for priority focus and exposure. I have been humbled a couple of times by the Superior Automatic mode producing better pictures than my compositions and settings. Auto-cropping is pretty smart. Auto High Dynamic Range and Dynamic Range Optimization work well and have adjustable settings. Anti-Motion Blur really works. Because the camera is inexpensive, the insurance is also quite reasonable. With the camera being so lightweight, I expect I'll be using it often instead of my rugged point and shoot to achieve better quality shots with more control. The downside is the display is needed to go through the menu to set anything, and the menu is tedious except for auto users. The display is hard to read in bright sunlight. Pros: Image Quality, weight, full set of controls, superior auto. Cons: The display.
