This BluRay was fraction of the cost of our old Sony, yet it load up almost instantly .. push eject .. it used to be a good minute for it to open or close .. in instantaneous like one would expect. The remote has a real surprise too. The buttons are small and it does not light up, but it controls the TV functions very well .. I always had to keep about 3 remotes going when playing movies -- this little remote does it all for watching movies, getting to the right input, volume etc. On the downside, there is not display, so you have get to your right input or else you would be working a bit blind -- the upside of that is -- no display, not distraction during the movie either. I saw small and figured "less" but this little unit does a terrific job. It also allows Netflix IF you have a hardwired internet connection to it.

Quick, reliable, excellent remote

We haven't had this very long and therefore haven't used it very much but we have had no issues with it so far. I haven't connected it to the internet as it's not wifi ready so you either have to have a direct connection or a bridge. However, I didn't buy it for that purpose as I have it hooked up to a smart TV and have no need to have internet connection to the bluray player. It plays blurays and DVD's without issue which was the purpose of my purchase. It's also small, which was a plus. Overall, I would say it's a good bluray player.

I wanted a low cost blu ray player but not a cheaply made player! this fills the bill perfectly! it also plays usb sticks, music, video, pictures etc! great player has wired internet too! great buy for under 60.00 dollars! and it's a sony!

great for the money!

I got far more out of this product than I ever expected. I spent $60 for it and it delivered big time. I could not stream shows on my smart TV using Netflix and Netflix Customer Service told me it must be due to my Internet speed which was wrong. Running my Internet through this Blu-Ray player it allowed me access to numerous online sites and streamed flawlessly. It also loads fast and automatically will switch back and forth to TV mode or Player mode just by turning it on or off, no intervention necessary. I have a wired Internet connection to this device and it works perfectly. Blu-Ray discs and standard discs played brilliantly.

Excellent Purchase

I bought a new Sony KDL50W829 tv and although I tend to download films that I watch, I still have a small DVD collection and bought this player to complement the tv. It is a great little unit. Switch it on and the tv powers up, pop in the DVD and by the time you are sitting down the film is ready to start. Super image quality for a value player.

Great value

I bought this low-end, Blu-Ray Disc Player (Sony BPDS1200) for a family that ONLY uses it to play movies or audio CDs 1-2 times per week. No web surfing, no digital connections, etc. For this use it is quite fine. True plug and play...after all these years, it's the first device I could connect and use as intended. That's first EVER.

Ease of use is quite good. Controls are mostly intuitive, even for technologically challenged family members. There is one difficulty, however. Occasionally when you stop using the player and turn off it's controls, it actually returns you to the television use (cable), enabling immediate TV viewing. Most times, it just gives you a blank screen and you must search out the TV's remote, find the input button and select the proper mode for cable viewing. Then you can resume watching TV.

For this low-end use that deliberately avoids employing all the "features" loaded onto the device, it serves quite well and I would indeed recommend it to others. The price point--below $70 and sometimes significantly cheaper is also appealing.

Appropriate Technology

So far this player is doing everything I expected from it. Hookup was simple and I like that it has Coaxial Digital out for my receiver. This player does a nice job of up-converting non Blu-ray movies. I haven't hooked it up to my network yet, maybe I'll get a WiFi adapter (not built-in) and give it a try. Once I use it more I may adjust my rating. Still think it's a great player for the price.

Nice Player

It is a good Blu-Ray player, no problems with it, but WalMart describes it having Wi-Fi. IT DOES NOT HAVE WIFI! You can still hard wire it & it has apps such as Netflix on it, which is why we wanted it in the 1st place.

Not as Advertised

Was purchased to replace DVD player. Easy set up, clear viewing with regular DVDs. Do not own Blue-ray Discs, so I cannot comment on that. My only issue is that I cannot not get it to sync with my internet (Wi-Fi), which is why I cannot give it a higher rating. Sorry.

DVD Player

I'm sure that there is nothing systemically wrong with this product, but it is advertised as having Wi-Fi when it does not. Please read all the other reviews before purchasing.
