I bought this system because my old one was showing its age after 20 years of good service.  Because I had recently bought a Sony TV, I decided to buy a Sony Surround Sound System to go with it.  Both are excellent products and they work well with each other, setting up was simple and all I had to do was buy a cable to connect the two products together so that when the TV is turned on it activated the audio system on the Home Cinema System.  Now we can enjoy music and DVD's, we can even take music and pictures from our PC's and play them through the TV and Home Cinema System.  Brilliant.

Home Cinema System

This is a smart-looking, straightforward system that offers rich bass surround sound. Used a headphone jack to phono lead to connect with my optical only Sony TV. Not cutting edge, but seems fine to me.

Basic, but competent

I bought this just under a month ago and am very happy. The sound quality is very good, good bass and clear sound effects. i have mine connected to my PS4, which wasn't an easy task and required a digital optical cable, which I sourced and afterwards I had no issues. I would recommend the product however, it could be improved if it came with at least a HDMI cable.

DVD Home Cinema

This system is fine for what I was needing. I sounds goods and gives you the theater sound you want. BUT, is entry level equipment. I put it in my loft area (8 x 9), and its does well enough. It was paired with a Sony Bravia 32' flat for my kids and they love it. You have to turn its volume almost to its max to get the full experience, but at around 28 the sounds begins to really come out. Don't bother with this system if you have a large room or want to shake the walls during your viewing; you will only be disappointed. For what I paid and what I wanted, it works for me. 3 stars due to the fact that until you turn the volume up the sound is almost none existent. No problem with refurbished unit though.

After some major finagling, my fiancee was able to get this set up to work through his Xbox for Netflix, etc. and then through the dvd player/receiver, but we were not able to hook it up directly to our television-- also a Wal-Mart product: a Hiteker 37" flatscreen. You could say it's an issue with the television, but after reading other reviews and such on the internet when we were trying to figure out how to get everything connected, I found a number of people had the same problem, so it seems like a good thing to bring up. Before purchasing this sound system make sure you have the ability to hook it up. Our television didn't have the necessary audio outputs to connect to the receiver. We were able to run a cable that was HDMI on one end and RCA on the other from the Xbox to the receiver. Our movies are now awesome though! It's got pretty good sound. I know I jumped several times watching horror movies over the weekend because it sounded like things were coming up behind me!

good value, but it doesn't work with our HDTV

It only has a red and white in with no digital audio coaxial in doesn't hook up properly to a lot of the newer tvs. Needed 60.00 in equipment to make it work, spent 20 and got a much nicer system that does so much more.

NEED EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT TO GET IT TO WORK

System was for older TV's, had no accommodation for the LG 47" led/lcd unit I had just bought fro WalMart. Had to return and get the DAV-175 model at the same price! None of these newer Sony systems are as complete as my older Sony unit, which accepts many audio & video inputs beside the DVD & cable box.

I ordered this system not knowing it was refurbished. My bad. As soon as I opened the box I knew it was not in the original packaging. I could see through the bubble wrap that some of the Sony name plates on the speakers were missing. I then read the packing slip and it was clear that it was refurbished and only had a 30 day warranty that did not cover appearance or blemishes. I returned it without even taking it out of the box. It may have worked just fine but I'd rather spend a little more money to get a full warranty and a brand new appearance.

Don't know

I got it all hooked up, plugged my Ipod Classic in using a USB cable. The screen said "Device Not Supported". I chatted with a Sony rep who stated Ipods are not supported. The box states USB cable to play music & videos.

Does not support Ipods

The product was a very good price, but it is terrible. If you turn it up loud it sounds terrible, I even checked the wiring. There is no option to connect so the TV can utilize the speakers. The DVD works fine not an impressive product, good for an apartment not a large room or house.
