Ratings & Reviews+

Swann 8 Channel Network Video Recorder & 4 x NHD-815 Cameras is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straight outta the box! I was skeptical about the ease in which they claimed this system would be to setup. I have a Samsung system and it was a beast to get online with. 4 calls to support and a few expletives here and there and finally got that online. This system---plugged in all the cables and clicked my phone on the QR code and waalaa---online and looking good. I was also amazed at the difference between 720TVL and 3MP cameras. Very pleased with the Swann system so far. I would tell anyone who needs a security system that is easy to setup and install - get this one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear Easy to Use System I bought this to monitor around my house on a 5 acre property. Video quality is excellent during the daytime and good at night. Easy to read things like faces and license plates day or night. Video search and playback is easy to use. Software is easy to navigate overall and camera's use Power over Ethernet which means you only need a Cat5 cable to plug it in. The ablilty to log in over the internet allows one to monitor via smartphone, tablet or laptop when away. I recommend buying the 8 camera version of this unit as I already found 4 more locations I would like to monitor. Now I have to add 4 more cameras which is a little more expensive than buying the 8 camera version in the first place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very solidly executed product Swann's package is complete, giving you everything you need with 4 3MP cameras and a 2 TB NVR. The cameras are all Power over Ethernet (PoE) with the power supplied by the NVR so no injectors are necessary. Setup is a breeze. Literally, just a few minutes following directions that weren't even necessary because the setup wizard and interface is intuitive. I had no problem connecting and using the SwannLink software for iOS and Windows. I initially bought a 4-camera Q-SEE package, but ended up returning it because its software was glitchy and difficult to get linked to a PC, phone, tablet. In short, the Q-SEE cameras were high quality, but the interface and software was terrible. This Swann package is so much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent system System was reasonably easy to install (other than pulling the cables through the attic), easy setup of NVR and easy to get connected through phone and desktop apps. I did have to call Swann technical support to get the system connected to my desktop. Turns out your password cannot have any letters in it which seems odd but that was all I needed to change to connect. Technical support person was very knowledgable and reaching them was not difficult at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great system at a great price I'm not sure I'd be saying the same thing if I'd paid $1000. But for $550 with tax its was absolutely worth it. Had it a month or so now. Cameras are great and the whole system was easy to set up. My complaint would be the software. It didn't work well at all on my Macs or PC's. Kept crashing, couldn't get any recordings at all. Since then though there has been new software for both platforms that do seem stable and reliable. Still can't get recordings on any iOS system but maybe they'll fix that too

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installed for a year and still very happy with it! I installed this system in April of 2016. For what it's worth, this is the first surveillance / camera system I have ever used or installed. I really wanted / needed 8 cameras, so I bought 2 of these systems and kept the 2nd kit's NVR as a spare. I didn't use any of the included CAT5 cables - I just ran my own and crimped on the ends when completed. It took a little bit of tweaking the exact mounting of each camera, just to get the desired coverage area. Even though many systems now include cameras at 4MP, 5MP and 4K resolutions, I'm still pleased with this 3MP system. Kind of like buying a new computer... it's practically outdated within a matter of weeks or months. So, it is what it is. I don't use any motion detection or email notifications with this unit, so I can't speak to those functions. I simply record 24x7 on all 8 cameras at full resolution with audio. In reality, I get about 3 days of recordings. So, I may purchase and install a 6GB hard drive to triple the saved recordings. I use the SwannView Link app on my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone. I don't have any issues at all with the app, whether it's connecting via Wi-Fi or on Verizon's 4G. I recently downloaded Swann's free upgrade for this and took it from a "7300" series NVR to a "7400" series NVR. So, now I could actually purchase Swann's 4MP cameras and use them on this system, if I chose to do that. Granted, they are $150 each and I'm still happy with my 3MP, so there's no need for me. But, it is a possibility in case you wanted to do it. In the past year, I have been able to record 3 items of interest. It captured 1 thief getting into my wife's car in the driveway in the early morning hours. The video and still images that were saved helped the local Police bring charges against the thief. It captured part of a dog attack that helped Animal Control bring charges against the owner of the dogs. And it captured a person dropping off a stolen vehicle in front of our next-door neighbor's house. After reviewing the video and talking to the Police, I saw the thief around the area later that day and got the Police called out. They were able to arrest him on charges of Receiving Stolen Property. In all, this system has brought great peace of mind. I only wish I could read the license plates of vehicles passing our house. (So, maybe I will upgrade one camera to 4MP and see if that helps.) If the vehicle is in the driveway, there is no issue with reading the plate. Regarding the 4 photos attached, there are day and night views of 2 of our 8 cameras. We have bright flood lights in the driveway along with a porch light, so you can see that 1 of the night-time still images is "grainy" because it's in color. The good thing with recording in color at night is that the "fluidity of motion" is still great, but the pixelation is increased quite a bit. When recording in the automatic "Night Vision" (black and white) at night (without enough ambient light), the image is sharper but the fluidity of motion is a bit staggered. 1 year in and I'd still highly recommend this system.
