Deck

Due to many years of illness, sealing of  our deck never got done.  Just found someone to complete the process  after a good pressure cleaning.   This poor abused 10 year old deck is now looking like it was just built and sealed. Am so happy with how Thompson's  performed.

Finally waterproofed

I applied the Clear waterproofer 2 years ago and it is still working well. I have had no wood rotting or mildew. I would recomend this with any new construction.

using Thopsons Water Seal

I had some 5 or maybe 10 year old Thompson water seal.  I put it on with my old Thomspon sprayer and it worked great.  However, I swear the sealer was clear.  Purchase a new can of sealer and it was milky and was very difficult to spary on my fence. The application was very blotchy.  It look terrible but as it dried the apperance improved.  Still have some sticky areas and wasted a lot of sealer because of how it sprayed..  I still recommend Thompson's water sealer because I have used it over 30 years with no problem.  Makes me wonder if its my sprayer or if its the product.  I may have to do the fence again to ensure proper coverage with a new sprayer and product.

Has the formula changed?

My experience is the same as the other recent reviews, i.e. leaves the concrete sticky and blotchy.  Used two gallons with a garden sprayer as recommended on the can.  When I ran out and had to go purchase another gallon, the nearest store didn't carry Thompson's.  Purchased Olympic and it worked perfectly.  That is the only part of my concrete that looks good.  So, it appears that it is possible to develop a formula that works, even with the VOC restrictions.  This is not an acceptable product.

Thompson Needs to Develop a New Formula

I "discovered" Thompsons Water Seal in the early 1990s when we renovated a house and I used it alone as a finish for new knotty pine kitchen cabinets and paneling. The original, high VOC formula was amazing stuff and after the experience with the kitchen, I started using it as the finish for almost every wood project. Sadly, thanks largely to the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the high VOC solvent based formula has been replaced with a low VOC, water based product. In my opinion, this new formula does not work anywhere near as well as the original. Plus, it is much more finicky to apply, gums up spray application equipment terribly, and is difficult to clean up. None of this is Thompsons' fault, but just one more instance of nanny state mandates that have ruined once fine and useful products. Sad. My search for a substitute as good as the original continues...

Not what it once was

This is my second "review".  The first review I posted wasn't up to Thompson's "standards", so they removed it.   I hope this pleases them.

I offer professional pressure washing services, I am experienced, but the absolute awful, horrendous, and terrible job the "Clear Multi-Surface Waterproofer" did on my clients driveway, walkway, and porch leaves me at a loss for words.  The directions were followed to a "T".  The cement was allowed to dry for 24 hours after I pressure washed it.  My pressure washing did a beautiful job on the cement, but it required waterproofing.  Product was applied evenly on cement that was at an optimal temperature, and allowed to dry for 24 hours.  3 days later, what you see in the photos is what we got.  There is nothing acceptable about how it left her cement looking.  Not only is she rightfully very upset, but I am now going to be expected to somehow get those stains off, and then reseal it.   Again..  

My customer trusted (as did I) Thompson's products.  She certainly isn't going to want to pay a second time for me to redo all the work.  

I am not the only person with this problem.  I am seeing this issue everywhere, especially on Thonpson's own review site.  Less than 57% are satisfied.  There is a problem with the product.  I am at a huge loss.  I cannot afford to work for free, nor give her her money back, but this just cost me and my client so much...  I am very upset.  

Was my posting in alignment with what Thompson allows?

Complete dissatisfaction, frustration, awful job.

I applied this product according to the instructions. my surface was acid stained concrete which is 7 years old. I applied the sealer with a roller and the temperature was approximately 85 degrees. After over 48 hours the sealer was tacky, so much so that you could not walk on the surface. Pressure washing twice with a detergent had a minimum effect. Only after two more cleanings with a degreaser was I able to walk on the surface with still some tacky spots which needed attention. I have used other water based concrete sealers before which have all had very fast drying times and did not remain tacky even after several applications within the same day. Always used Thompson's products in the past and I thought I would revisit the product line. I am sorry I did.

Tackiness

We power washed and cleaned our deck and it looked brand new.  We waited a day to be sure it was dry and applied this clear seal and I am so disappointed.  This was 3 days of work and it looks horrible!!  I have used this product for 30 years and have always loved the way it brightened and refreshed our deck.  How do we fix this?

Says it goes on to clear drives White I don't know how much longer it has to drive because the white residue is dry to the touch the stuff used to be good now it's junk
