Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great!! When there are no Drivers that work for a normal Ethernet cable plug-in, and you need a fast High-Speed connection through a USB-port 1gb. data transfer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great! I bought this for my cousin whose desktop PC built in Ethernet (network card) burned out in a lightning storm. I figured this USB Ethernet adapter would be easier than opening the case and adding an ethernet adapter and I wasn't even sure that her Internet Service Provider (ISP) had come to the correct conclusion...that it was her built in Ethernet adapter that was bad. Well...they were right and this USB solution worked great!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spec is misleading = not true gigabit speed Syncs with 10, 100, and 1000 networks, but not at full speed on gigabit (1000 speed) networks. This is because it speed is bottle necked with only a USB 2.0 (not USB 3.0) connection, so it can only transfer data at half duplex (cant talk and listen at the same time) and can not transfer data faster than 480mbs. Both issues are a USB 2.0 limitation that slows the data transfer to less than one fourth the wired networks available full duplex gigabit speed. Will it connect to a gigabit network? Yes. Will it transfer data at gigabit speed? NO. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Summary: 1. IF you only connect to a 10 or 100 speed network and only have a USB 2.0 port available on your computer, this will work near rated speeds, but only in half duplex. If you use it in this configuration it will function, but there are many cheaper adapters available that work just as fast, so you may not want this one. 2. IF you want true gigabit throughput speeds, you MUST use a USB 3.0 adapter on a USB 3.0 computer port. This adapter can not work at full gigabit speed, no matter where or which type USB port you plug it into, or in any other configuration - Period. I do need true gigabit, which has throughput over 4 times faster than this adapters capabilities, so I returned it. The true gigabit USB 3.0 adapter I replaced this one with cost less than $3 more from Wal-mart, and there were many more for less than $10 more.
