Description & Features+

Osmosis is the process of water passing through a semi permeable membrane in order to balance the concentration of contaminants on each side of the membrane. A semi permeable membrane is a barrier that will pass some particles like clean water, but not other particles like arsenic and lead.

Reverse osmosis uses a semi permeable membrane; however, by applying pressure across the membrane, it concentrates contaminants (like a strainer) on one side of the membrane, producing crystal clear water on the other. This is why RO systems produce both clean drinking water and waste water that is flushed from the system.

This Zero Waste reverse osmosis system also utilizes carbon block filtration technology, and can therefore provide a higher quality drinking water than carbon filtration systems alone.

  • 1 - 5 Micron Sediment Filter: Reduces Dirt, Sand and Rust

Ratings & Reviews+

Watts Zero Waste Reverse Osmosis System is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it's supposed to. I bought this RO unit for my parents as their well water can taste pretty metallic at times and often has a sulpher smell. They also burn a lot of wood in the winter and need to run humidifiers to keep the humidity up. The first year they burned wood they just used well water in the humidifiers and everything in the house was coated in a white powder after a few weeks because of the hard water. They then had to start hauling bottled water from town and now that they are creaping up on 70 years old, those water bottles aren't getting any lighter. So I hooked it up about 2 weeks ago and tested it with my TDS meter. The unfiltered water from the tap had 354ppm total dissolved solids, from the reverse osmosis system, only 19ppm. The water is clean, clear, has no smell and tastes like the bottled water you buy at the store. Overall a huge improvement!! Now for the hookup. It was a little painful because I didn't mount it under their sink. They have a nice heated storage area right under the kitchen sink so I decided to mount it there so it can be worked on at chest height for filter replacement, etc. If you mounted it under the sink as intended, I suspect it would be pretty easy. My first problem, the line coming off the RO unit for the tap was not long enough. Ok, I'll just go to the hardware store, buy some 1/4" shark bites and 1/4" pex and add a piece. While I was there, I bought some 1/2" to 1/4" tees and shut offs, etc. Get back to get it installed, they aren't 1/4" lines, they are smaller. Nothing I just bought will work. Ok, back to the hardware store (did I mention they live 1/2 hour out of town, 1 hour round trip) and try to find something smaller. The only thing I could find was an icemaker installation kit. Bought it, took it back, and it worked. The line was the right size, and the compression splice worked well. Now to just hook it into the hot and cold water lines. Again, none of the lines are 1/4" so I can't just buy the 1/2" to 1/4" tee sharkbites. I am now forced to buy the 1/2" to male and female threaded sharkbites and try to use the plastic valves supplied with the RO system (metal valves would have been soooo much better with such a crucial installation part). It worked, but I had a nasty time getting the male threaded side of the RO system vales to stop leaking. It would have been so much easier to install if it just had 1/4" pex lines. That's really my only complaint about the system as a whole so far. It is however in and working and overall seems to be doing a good job with no water going down the drain. We'll see how it does long term and how long before they need to replace the filter media.
