only problem is I am conscerned about black color being a hazard of chemicals.   Recent reports have that as recycled plastic and would love to turn out wrong as basket has been a joy while prepping ot cook.

I like this trash bin because its the perfect size and fits in narrow spaces but the plastic hook to close the lid breaks after a week or so. I'm trying to find a REPLACEMENT but I can't find it. I would hate to get another plastic container for that reason.

Great design, poor manufacturing

The trashcan looks nice. It fits easily in a smaller space and is easy to keep out of the way. However, I purchsed a lidded trashcan with my newly-adopted trash-picker dog in mind. This trashcan will NOT fit the bill. The lid does not snap in place; it merely rests on top of the can and can be easily knocked off by a nosy canine. It defeats the purpose of having a latch on the lid in the first place. I'm going to try hot-gluing the lid to the can. I mainly use it for office-type trash, not food scraps, so I don't use a trash bag in it anyway.

Disappoining design flaw

Bought this wastebasket appropriately 6 weeks ago to use in laundry room. I live alone so don't have much laundry; therefore, the wastebasket doesn't get much use at all. Despite this, the grey push “button” on the lid broke. I love this can because it's a great size but I'm not sure if I should purchase a replacement if the lid will break again. Thank you.

I loved this trash can when I first got it a couple of weeks ago. However, after the first week the lid will no longer pop up when I push the button and it won't close all the way. I took a look at the lid and can't figure out what's going on with it. It was very expensive from the location I purchased it from and now that it's used they won't take it back.

Disappointed

This product looked good so I purchased it. I had it for a short period of time and the latch broke. I tried to contact Sterilite on line and their site went into error every time I tried to contact them and I could not get anything done. If this is the kind of service you get from this company then I don't want to do any more business with them. The product should last longer than it did. You don't need a picture to show a broken latch. It just broke off.

bad product

I bought this several years ago for cat food storage but almost immediately the gray lid release broke.  I continued to use this by placing a heavy object on the lid since I don't access it that much, however, that defeats the purpose of having a locking lid.

Lid locking mechanism is not durable

I want to love this bin. It is the perfect size, and we love the self-opening lid. Unfortunately, the lid is not sturdy. They lids keep cracking. We have gone through 4 lids in 7 months.
