I have a couple finicky old horses that won't drink unless their water is warm. In the cold winter we especially worry about this to prevent colic. This keeps the water at 60-70 degrees. They drink multiple buckets a day. Great product and great to
Not have to chip ice and worry about water consumption. Not sure we'd make it up here without them. Yes - it does use energy and my bills are up 50/ month for 4 of them. But we'll worth it and cheaper than heating my barn.

Keeps water warm in -30 Maine winters

I recently moved to Arkansas from California.  My horses, dogs, Donkey, kitties and chickens of course moved with us. It was 16 degrees recently with a high of 24. I was so grateful for these buckets. They stayed a perfect temperature the whole time. It's still very cold, ice in the shade, the buckets are functioning perfectly. The dogs stay in the house, but we spend a lot of time outside no matter the weather. They need water while we are outside too. I ordered some extras for them. I have some other ones for the chickens that don't work very well. I bale water out of these buckets for them, the ones I have for the chickens are a different brand, the water is too cold. Significant difference with these. I have consistently read that animals prefer water lukewarm. Seems true in my experience over 54 years of animal companionship.

Works Great!

I love this bucket, it works perfectly. It holds a little more than a typical horse water bucket, which is nice. The cord is well protected from curious horse teeth.

Why only 4 stars? It has no lip/grip on the bottom, and is hard to empty. This is a design flaw, nothing to do with SmartPak.

Here's a tip, when you want to empty a water bucket that is connected to a long wire, sometimes it isn't possible to just remove it from the stall and dump it outside like a regular bucket. Wheel your empty wheelbarrow under the bucket, unsnap the bucket from the wall, and tip the water into the wheelbarrow. Then dump the water outside. Saves your arms, shoulders and elbows, too.

Nice oversized water bucket

The bucket is a nice size. My only concern is that it is the only heated bucket in the barn that does not have a ground. I probably would not have bought the bucket if I had known the cord was not grounded.

OK product

The bucket was fine but the cord was shorter than it listed it as. I had to return it because I found another bucket with a longer cord. I went to return it and I had to pay the return shipping. Apparently it's not free shipping both ways on products this size. That seemed unclear to me when I purchased it. Shipping was $30 so it was just really unfortunate. I have always been a SmartPak fan but recently I have found I have had random issues like this.

Bucket fine but cord too short

Nice bucket but the cord was shorter than the other buckets we've been using and it barely makes it to the plug... which makes it very difficult to dump. At least 6 more inches is needed!

Love the bucket but the cord is too short!

I was concerned if they would turn off or burn out if run dry. Factory rep could not really tell me how they worked. Said they could be dry for hours, but they get VERY hot if water level gets low. I'd prefer they turned off sooner.

Okay but could be better

Ya know I have used these in the past at diffrent farms I have eworked at, and I was hoping for a better design with it being Yeats later, I like the bucket don't get me wrong but the cord is a few inches to short

Unfortunately the bale wire isn't hidden from the horse. Mine got her tail caught in it, pulled away ripping out lots of hair and straightening the bale completely. Valley Vet has better designed buckets. I'll go back to those next time.

Careful with this bucket

I had it for last 2 winters in Georgia then stored it indoors over the summer. Went to use it this winter and it no longer works. It's a little pricey to have to replace every year or two!
