So far this has worked with zero issue. My concern is longevity. I use this to back up my laptop. Of course the main concern is longevity/reliability meaning whether the hard drive will fail or corrupt in the future. Hopefully I will be able to update if I run into issues down the line. But at present it works completely fine as intended. I am backing up a MacBook Air. This is both usb and usb-c compatible which is very important. The listing did not make this clear in the description, and probably should be updated because potential buyers may pass this over without that information. It works with Time Machine. I recommend.

Great So Far

I like the drives. I use them to backup Mp3s and to save my JDrama collection. They seem to work good. Have not yet had a drive fail,  and I've been using them for over 10 years.

I bought this so I could rely less on cloud storage. I didn't notice until after purchasing that it gives you the option to log in to certain cloud services and transfer all photos and videos at once! It took about 7 hours to transfer 100,000 pics and vids from OneDrive to the hard drive. The only downside to that is if I every want to do that again with photos I've added to the cloud later on, it won't just transfer the new photos. It will transfer all of them again.

Very convenient for cloud to hard drive transfer

This review has its roots in a never going to change opinion on one topic: The "cloud." 

Everybody, yes that means you, should always have a personal storage hard drive with a large capacity. Not sd cards. Not USB sticks. A physical hard drive. The cloud only exists to pretend to backup your things then hold those things at random when you don't pay. 

There are no storage fees with a hard drive and you know exactly where it is.

Excellent Hard Drive. Simple plug and play, lots of storage space, and a really good price.

The value for the storage is generous for what I am using it for.

The software does not offer Apple iCloud backup or ability to partition . So I had to figure that out on my own. I don't understand what the included software is for other than to confuse the installation process. Now I have a software installation that didn't need to be installed. Hopefully my system will delete any junk that was installed with this installation process. Once I had the drive installed with the proper partitions, it seems to be running smoothly.

Value and quality

Never had such a bad experience with a hard drive. I filled at about half full with files, only to have it abruptly crash and become unmountable. I reformatted it, ran disk first aid on both the drive and partition, found no problems, and reloaded my data. Had just started backing up the newly reloaded drive to the cloud when it once again crashed and became unmountable. My recovery software can't even see it. I haven't even had it a full month - and to get a replacement under warranty I have to pay to have it shipped back to Western Digital and then wait up to three weeks for a replacement. I've barely HAD it three weeks. Hot garbage, do not buy. A brick wouldn't have wasted so much of my time and money.

I'd have been better off buying a brick

Did not work - made alarming clicking noises and could not transfer files. Returned it to buy a different brand. I have never actually had a good experience with a WD drive, but I give them a shot every few years because people always  insist they're good and it was a good price.... and every few years I get burned and don't learn my lesson.

Bad on arrival, returned for another brand

Very slow - after 60 days, drive spins but does not connect.  Already broken.
