I bought these for my spare room for three reasons - I have triplet grandbabies and can sleep all 3 on the futon until they are old enough to fight over the top bunk (then 2 down and one up); it gives me extra beds for other guests, and it provides functional seating in my spare room that doubles as a rec/play room.

It went together smoothly - no issues at all.  I needed the assistance of my 12- and 10-year-olds briefly to hold some pieces in place  while assembling the framework, but other than that, this 50-year-old woman did it by herself.  The packaging of the hardware was great - individual pouches for each type nut, washer and bolt, and appropriately labeled.  Tools were included - 2 allen wrenches, 2 flat wrenches for holding the nuts.  The flat wrenches slipped and wore quickly but I just grabbed a socket from my toolkit.   Also, an extra allen wrench was needed for tightening a couple receded bolts, but I happened to have the correct size so it must've been standard (my tool supply is sparse).

In the end, it is a secure unit - it has minor sway with weight on the top bunk during motion, but nothing scary.  The futon movement (from couch to bed) is confusing at first, but once you know how its done, its smooth and easy.

There were some minor paint dings (I got the silver - which is a painted metallic finish - not chrome or brushed aluminum as I thought it might be), but luckily in concealed areas...and for the price and my purposes, I am not complaining.

The biggest downside - in the box, it is SUPER HEAVY.  It was delivered to my garage at my request when I wasn't home.  We dragged to the front porch and up and in the front door, where I opened  the box and carried piece by piece up to my 2nd floor.  Just an FYI.

Perfect extra beds!

It took a lot of time to assemble, but it's really solid with all the bolts that they provide to assemble it. Very well made, two young teenage boys won't be able to make a mess of this frame, it's solid tubular steel. We bought the very thick 8" mattress, difficult to fold, but it's really comfortable for the boys to sleep or play upon. They chose the silver grey frame and a charcoal grey mattress, great looking combination. You will need two men to haul it inside and to assemble it. It's large, so you will need a good sized truck, or pay for delivery.  Very reasonable pricing for a top quality combination, there are a lot of other products out there for hundreds of dollars more than what we paid. We used his old mattress on the top, fit perfect.

bunk bed w/futon

We purchased a similar bunk bed several years ago for our sons.  When we decided to get another bunk bed for our daughters, we went with the same style.  The bed shipped from an independent shipping company, not Walmart. They contacted us to set up a delivery time and everything was very smooth.  The bed took about 1.5 hours to set up with 2 people and seems very sturdy.  We purchased a queen sized memory foam sofa sleeper mattress for the bottom bunk and it fits great.

Satisfied customer!

Originally bought 1 over a year ago when kids needed to share room.  Now, in their own rooms I bought another so they could use the lower couch as a reading nook.  So, it is a pretty good bed.  However, this 2nd purchase came with some damaged parts.  We were able to hammer out large dent. 
Just a reminder to keep it from wobbly feeling is to tighten all screws after ALL parts are loosely connected.  On first bed I tightened a little too soon and the bed felt less stable.  
Pretty good for the price & kids love their beds.

Purchased again

I bought this for my twelve year old son. He loves it. It is hard to put it in to the sofa position from the bed position with the futon mattress on. We have to take the mattress off change the position then put the mattress back on.  We bought a 8 inch futon mattress. So maybe a thinner mattress would be better.

Great bed

E-Z-w D - eal with, da kids could build it... just follow-up & tighten all da nuts & bolts! Yesz, very sturdy bed frame. You only need to get a thin futon cusion but I'd recommend an 8" futon cushion. Also, you need the twin mattress so, be prepaired to purchase an 8" futon mattress and a spring mattress twin. The mattress we purchased, my daughter says is very comfortable, she say's  & we had an 8" futon from one we had before... 
Worked out fine, just what I we wanted .

E-Z-2D

Super easy to put together, the bed itself was not labeled tho, it will take some common sense to be able to get it together. Didn't take long for my husband at all. It's not very sturdy. He was able to get it as tight as it could go and the whole bed still shakes and makes quite a bit of noise which of course drives us insane and our daughter is nervous going up the ladder on the side because of this. It came with quite a few scratches as well. Not really sure how long it will last due to how shaky it is. I've noticed some complaints about it not coming with the futon mattress? No where in the listing does it state it does. I got online and ordered a memory foam full size futon mattress and it fits perfectly. Unfortunately I think the lack of sturdiness will result in us having to purchase another bed in a years time if it even makes it that long.

Would not purchase again.

This bed looks really cool, my 14 year old son was excited to get it. He keeps trying to sleep on the couch so a futon was the perfect choice. However, I bought this with the 8 inch futon mattress and it will NOT fold into a couch. The mattress is apparently too heavy to fold on this bed, which defeats the entire purpose of buying a futon. 

As for the quality, the frame came with chunks of color (we bought silver) missing all over the bed. Not a small spot or two, large spots on every side. The plastic caps that are supposed to cover the jagged metal parts don't fit properly so they fall out. 

Overall, it wasn't too difficult to assemble, which was a plus. I wouldn't purchase it again or recommend it to anyone.

You get what you pay for

I love the bed itself, it fits the room perfectly and is not too high for my 6 year old.  My issue is in the fact that this product was damaged when I received it, and the metal is weak enough that even just tightening the bolts warped the metal.  The bars that keep the top mattress in place are held on by minor spot welding's and being that one bar was bent and the welding popped off, it makes me question the integrity of the entire bed.  My little 50lb son makes the whole bed squeak.  Not to mention the delivery was a nightmare.

Poor quality

I was very disappointed in this purchase.  Walmart would not direct ship without a fee, so we had to ship to store and pick it up.  Customer service was rude wondered why we did not ship this to our house because it was awkward and heavy for them to move, well guess what not so easy for us at home with only two people either.  Then when I started to unpack it, it was damaged. The paint was chipped on every single piece of the frame. I thought about trying to return it and thought about what a hassle that would be to try to tape the box back together seeing as we cut the top of it completely off, and hauling it back the 2 hour drive to the store not to mention the awkwardness of trying to get it back into the back of the truck to do all of this.  So we bought a can of spray paint to try & touch up all the damage. Not a good experience at all!!!
