I spent some time researching this. I live in California and was looking for ways to cut down the evaporation of water in my pool because of the drought. My pool is kidney shaped, but since there are no kidney shaped pool covers available except as a custom install, and I am on a tight budget, I went with a rectangular pool cover that was close to the general dimensions of my pool.

The cover is basically a thinner version of a regular plastic tarpaulin with a black shiny anti-bacterial/algae coating on one side. It wasn't too hard to spread it out and stretch it across the pool, despite the irregular pool shape, and after three weeks seems to be doing it's job, keeping leaves and debris out of the pool as well as drastically cutting down the water loss through evaporation.
The warranty is one year replacement with seven subsequent years of prorated replacement. There are silver and gold versions, which one assumes are heavier duty since they are also more expensive for the same size cover and have better warranties.

Over all, for fifty five bucks this works pretty well for me. I saw comparable size covers for three or four times the cost, but have no way to determine whether they are any better quality or heavier duty.

For those who want to minimize the set up, you may want to check on a roller that sits at one end of the pool that you can use to roll up the cover when not in use, but it runs around two hundred bucks. I set my cover up on my own in around an hour. Stretching it out so it is smooth across the length and breadth of the pool was the most time consuming part which in my case involved laying weights (I used cinder blocks but the water tubes that are sold would be less damaging and heavier albeit more expensive) around the perimeter and tying retaining string from the cover grommets to various supports to tension the cover ( diving board, breezeway 4X4s, pool slide, etc.).
Other options would be to drill or sink permanent anchors around the perimeter of the pool, but that was way too much work for me.

This cover is not as thick (sturdy) as some pool covers but meets my needs.

Fast shippment.

Every seam leaks a little but one seam leaks more in one spot at both ends.  I bought it to stop the pool evaporation so it will save me the $50 I spent.  It is lightweight but will stop the evaporation and keep leaves out.

Probably worth $50

I bought this used it one winter and it all ripped along the sides and gromets. tried to get a replacement and they told me it would be $65 USD so like $90 CAD almost the price of a new one so fully covered for a year is crap when they charge you enough shipping to pay for the item

Don't buy

Walmart has an 8 year warranty and you can't even get a month out of it!!!  Got a whole in it not even a month after it was put on simply just by the pool pump sitting on top of it, then another one  shortly after, same way.  Pool covers are supposed to be designed for pool pumps. How else do you drain the water from the top??  I tried to deal with just having a pool float of some sort underneath the holes, but every time it's windy they move and then the holes are exposed again!  And now today there is a HUGE rip at one of the corners.  This cover is absolutely horrible and I want my money back so I can buy a better cover.  Please note this cover will be too bulky and too much of a mess to return.  So I have pictures for evidence… This cover has caused the clean water from underneath the pool cover to mix in with the dirty water at the top.. has caused some water from below the cover to drain accidentally.. debris has gotten inside my pool including leaves.. and now I'm also burdened with having to take all the bricks off from around the pool, take this cover off and take to the dump, and have to order another one and put that one on and put all the bricks back. And my pool is huge as you can see by the cover size, so none of this will be an easy task and will be time consuming. And actually Walmart should be giving me a hefty merchandise credit on top of my refund for the inconvenience and all the damage that their cover caused.  This is their fault for offering an ‘8 year guarantee'.  If they were honest and say one month I would've never gotten it!!

Worst cover ever

One week after installed, I noticed water started transpiring up through the cover, which actually accelerated evaporation since the wind evaporated the water on top of the warm cover faster than usual.
better pay a bit more and get some other of better quality.

Low cost, low quality

had this cover around 2 months and water is pooling on tut op from the pool water not rain, pathetic
