I had to knock off a star for function - find it difficult to raise the umbrella and get it to stay up. Not sure what the problem is. I just held it up with my hand for the photo. Once I can get that squared away this will be an excellent addition to my patio. Love the tilt and ease to crank.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The California Umbrella 7.5' Pacific Trail Series Patio Umbrella with Stone Black Aluminum Pole Aluminum Ribs Push Button Tilt Crank Lift with Olefin Navy Fabric has its strengths but also room for improvements. To start off, the assembly process is pretty easy and straightforward; you secure the bottom half of the pole into your base and then attach the top half with the umbrella onto it by lining up the holes with a button that pushes out to secure it in place. While I wish the umbrella went further into the bottom half, because it's pretty wobbly and less sturdy, the poles themselves felt sturdy and to be made of a good material. Also, before you attach the top to the bottom though, you need to screw on the umbrella topper to keep water out of the poles and to secure the fabric on top. This was the *most* frustrating and upsetting part of the whole process; the topper and top of the umbrella are both made of cheap plastic and were not molded correctly so it was impossible to twist on. We ended up having to melt the plastic to get it to stay on. I would recommend to California Umbrella to make these out of the same material as the poles. The fabric of the umbrella itself was a good, quality material and blocked out a decent amount of sun once opened. One nit pick that I have is that I wish that it had a velcro close rather than a tie to better keep it secured during windy days. Cranking it open is easy, but the lack of a clearly indicated stopping point (such as the elusive red dot mentioned in the instructions) is inconvenient. Despite these drawbacks, I did really like the tilt feature, it seemed easy to do after doing it a few times but with how it's designed, I have safety concerns about getting my fingers stuck in the button. As far as aesthetics, the umbrella is very stylish and brought a nice, modern touch to my backyard. Overall, while visually appealing, the assembly and functionality issues make it difficult to recommend to others.
