Love my Garmin Approach® S42. Use it every time Igogolfing,which is abut once week!  I'm a hacker. so don't need to know the exact distance to the green.  To know where Ther front and back of the green are the most help.  It also great to be able to move the pin on the green.  The messaging is useless.  It would be great to know the temperature.  Love the shot distance measurement!

I am eighty one years old.  I find the .  the watch does a great job counting the shot and recording.  I get confused and end up hitting the wrong button almost every time.  I may had changed setting upon first using the watch but the watch and I get into an argument when I just want to record the correct score.  You tube goes to fast in showing you how to use the watch and I get confused.  
Would love a simple instruction sheet on how to record the score or change it if the watch is incorrect.

Complicated

I am surprised at the time it takes for the sattlelite to find the course.  I thought with this being a Garmin product it would be very efficient but I have free apps that connect to the course much faster.  Any advice on this issue to improve the situation is appreciated.

GPs is sluggish

This is the second Garmin S42 I have had in 3-4 years. Garmin sent me this one to replace one that suddenly stopped being able to connect to GPS. I have had my current watch for about a year and it has been showing a low memory warning and sometimes not uploading my rounds to my Garmin app. Garmin support tried to assist, but after trying all their solutions, I am still getting this warning on my display. Today, mid round, my watch lost the hole layout display and only gave me simple yardage with no front/middle/back yardage to the hole. After the front 9, I tried restarting the watch and it then would not find any courses, displaying a “cannot find courses” error message. I followed the Garmin support instructions to reinstall courses by connecting the watch to Garmin Connect on my PC. It took 4 attempts for this to actually work. I am sceptical that it will work on my next round. I am sure I will still get the low memory warning or will not even load courses. I would be hesitant to purchase another Garmin Golf watch and am considerIng either the Bushnell iON watch or the BUSHNELL
Phantom 3 Slope GPS handheld. I don't need the fashionability or the lifestyle features that Garmin is known for but just need a reliable  product on the course.

Disappointing

I bought this a few years ago and it worked very well. A few weeks ago the touch screen stopped working. I can no longer change the hole I'm on once I start a round. I tried everything listed on the support web page. I reset the watch to factory defaults and reinstalled software on my phone. Nothing worked. I can not make any adjustments on screens that give show a plus sign to increase a number or a minus sign to decrease a number. It is very frustrating that the watch has failed.

Touch screen stopped working

Love the watch and the different available faces. However, I bought it for golf and after 2 months, it would lose battery power after 11 to 13holes. I sent it back to the manufacture,
they sent it back and it worked for 18 holes TWICE and then low battery BACK TO NORMAL.
I am a single digit golfer and expected more.
I'll be looking for something with a proven battery life for 18 holes.

Watch is great, Battery life for golf poor.

When it works it is great.  Unfortunately it now brings back scores from prior rounds, sometimes 2 or 3 times during the current round.  Have done a hard reset, deleted Garmin golf/connect and reinstalled and the problem persists.  Only way to resolve is to turn off the Bluetooth connection to my phone.

Not great

I have reset this watch, downloaded every update and have not been able to get it to work this year.  I have it for two years but I have expectations that it can perform for more than a year. It works fine when it works but getting it to work has been a challenge.

Struggle to connect to satellites

Received as a gift this Christmas.  It keeps freezing up while on my wrist and stops working.  I have to continue to plug it into the charger to get it to unfeeze.  I'm now in MX for a couple months and am unable to return it.  Hoping they'll back me up when I return in March!

Horrible!

I have had a S-42 for several months, buying it bec ause it could cover both my golf acti vities and track steps and such.  However, getting this watch to sync with my phone has been one endless headache.  I have reloaded the Garmin Connect app several times, to no avail.   Only twice i nthis time have I succeeded in syncing --  and those successes seemed to be by accident.  The steps provided in the direction have not worked. 
In addition, the watch will shift to golf mode without  my efforts, and spend all day t rying to find a golf course -- thus running down the battery.  I would not recommended buying this product.
