I totally love my Forerunner 970!!! Many years ago, I had an early version of the Forerunner watch. While I really enjoyed it, I decided to retire my old Forerunner and got an Apple watch due to integration with my iPhone and not wanting to have too many devises.  Fast forward several years to now, I learned that today there are many (maybe all) of the Garmin watches, including the Forerunner, do integrate with the iPhone on virtually all of the functions that I use! With this in mind, when my Apple Watch died a few weeks ago, I ran, not walked, back to Garmin!!! I'm now three weeks into wearing my Forerunner 970, and I haven't regretted this decision. I totally LOVE IT!!! The Forerunner has more data points, far better analytics, a better user experience with both the watch itself, and the Garmin Connect app, and amazingly better battery life. Bravo Garmin! Thanks for designing the best watch that I've ever worn!

Always intimidating to switch to a new version of anything, especially watches and Garmin products.  This Forerunner is so great.  LOTS of things to still learn.   So far it is an excellent watch, easy to use, once you learn the ways.   Love it all around.

Perfect upgrade and switch from Fenix 5

I got my Nine-Seventy 3 weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. Have not been able to try out all the different settings and options yet but have accomplished most of my daily activities, like running, track-running, pool swimming and biking and it's fantastic to see everything on the super bright amoled screen.  Especially track workouts (I'm the coach of a running club) are easy to follow, also afterwards, split out into all the little details.  One of the great things of  the modern Garmin Forerunner watches is the option to share your hard work with a coach or a friend who can see your workout on his other computer-screen for comments, which is what I do.  This Forerunner is the most beautiful Garmin I ever had,  exellent as a sports-watch but also top class as a smart watch.  I was even able to check my HR for possible AFIB.....

Best Garmin Forerunner ever!

I have used garmin forerunner for 20+ years. I had the 920xt for 12 years before this. As always I am on the learning curve with an new watch. As always it has everything and way more that I need. I have picked it up fairly quicky. Overall i love the bigger screen now as those who get older know, the eyes fade. I love my new forerunner and plan on having it for years to come

Back in Style

After 9 years my 920XT died. The Forerunner 970 is incredible.  Still learning all the features. 

Used it playing tennis.  The continuous heart rate feature is outstanding.  Great for monitoring how quickly the heart rate recovers.

The sleep coach is another strong feature.

Watch of a lifetime

A little delay to receive it but the watch is really perfect! - Yes.

Garmin forerunner 970

I've had to watch 3 weeks now and I'm still trying to figure out some of the features. It's almost overwhelming what it can do. I've been watching several YouTube videos and obviously playing with it to get a better understanding. I've even messed it up and had to wipe it out short over like it's a new watch.
I would have given it five stars if I understood how this watch worked, and how it can benefit me.

It does a lot

Pretty Impressive. Coming from FR 965, I appreciate the new UI and quality of life features like the torch. But overall not that big a jump from 965. UI still needs more work, the cost increase doesn't seem that justified. Also battery life has gone down which is sad. But for 1st time buyers, I definitely recommend.

Decent

I came here from an Apple Watch and I really enjoy the garmin difference hands down. Battery life, the torch, and overnight night monitoring especially if you are rocking one of the garmin nylon bands. The only setback for the 970 is the default watch faces. I wish Garmin had more available out of the box for a watch of this cost (just include the Fenix or similar watch face), but I am very happy with the choice, especially with the integration to other hardware like an Inreach mini 2/3.

Happy to make the switch from the aw series.

I recently purchased a Garmin Forerunner 970 and really wanted to love the watch because the features, battery life, fitness metrics, and overall ecosystem are outstanding. Unfortunately, I had to return it due to issues with the optical sensors reading through my tattoos.

I have tattoos on my wrist/forearm area, and the watch consistently struggled with heart rate accuracy, sleep tracking, and other sensor-based measurements. At times the readings would completely drop out or become inconsistent during workouts and daily wear. I tried repositioning the watch, tightening the band, cleaning the sensors, and adjusting settings, but the issue remained.

I understand this is a limitation of optical sensor technology and not necessarily a defect with the watch itself, but it was disappointing considering how advanced the device is otherwise. For users with darker or heavily tattooed wrists, this is something Garmin should continue improving or at least communicate more clearly before purchase.

Outside of the sensor issue, the watch itself was excellent, and I would absolutely consider Garmin again in the future if sensor performance over tattoos improves.

Great watch, but tattoos affected sensor accuracy

Touchlock on but off in settings. Had that problem with enduro 3 also. You love to charge crasy ammount of cash, but dont know how to fix bugs in expencive watches. My next watch will not be garmin praise the lord. Had problems with instinct 3 also- making intervals and watch going off all the time. You gave us update but problem is here again. Had faulty button on epix pro. Bunch of lags on all watches. You are crasy with pricing. Amazfit is catching you, coros also, and I am glad for that. 970 will be better in years, but, you will abandone it than, so... no good. Had bunch of problems with your watches. You selling this problems for people who dont even run, just wearing them for walks and showing off. For serious athlete I dont want to deal with your bugs all the time.
