Step by step directions for removing the Walmart logo from the Kobo boot screen

- Plug Kobo into computer

- Double click Kobo device to open Kobos files

- Double click the folder that says .kobo. If you are on a Mac and dont see the .kobo folder, try hitting command   shift   . to reveal hidden folders

- Inside the .kobo folder, open the file named affiliate.conf

- Change affiliate=walmart to affiliate=kobo, then close out of the file and click ok to lock in your changes

Walmart logo should now be absent from the Kobo boot up screen.

I too dislike corporate advertisements (one of the many reasons I steered clear from Amazon Kindles) so I hope this helps someone out there.

Aside from that, what's not to love?

- Kobo is not a corporate surveillance company that makes its money primarily from analyzing your metadata
- Kobo has native support for Pocket (Kindles do not)
- Kobo offers greater control over its OS (Kindles are a walled-off garden)

Easy Way to Remove Walmart Logo from Your Kobo

Have only had this device for a week, but I think it is great. With the software on this device, I can easily access my local library and borrow books for free. Haven't bought any books as yet, but the available list is impressive. I have been an avid user of the public library and rarely purchase books, but I like the idea that I could purchase one if I wished.

Great E-book reader.

Upgrading from a Clara HD and the experience has been a worthy improvement. Reading now feels like holding a mass market paperback in the amount of words that can fit on the page. The buttons are quiet and unobtrusive. They allow the reading experience to be seamless and being able to switch between hands without disruption makes this reader worth every penny.

I was on the fence about getting a Libra because while I want the buttons I cannot use them at night if they are loud as I do not wish to disrupt my wife. I went ahead and purchased the Libra because I wanted to see once and for all how they'd be. I'm happy to find that my Libra buttons are very quiet and at night they cannot be heard unless I press the top of the button. The buttons do make noise if I press them right but I've found that if I hold my hand in a natural position and press the bottom of the buttons are completely quiet. After a few hours use I was able to hold this with one hand and turn the page with the button without any noise and without it being uncomfortable.

I was worried about upgrading from the Clara HD since the smaller size meant it would be lighter and I like to read holding the device with only one hand. The spec sheets says the Libra is slightly heavier but I've either grown used to it in a few days or it's not enough of a change to be noticeable for me. I read at night with one hand, using my pinkie at the bottom to help hold the reader while I'm reclined. I can easily swap hands and the Libra screen switches quickly and I just keep going without getting pulled from the story. I have read more books on this device in just a few weeks than I have with my Clara in a year. It is absolutely amazing and has changed the way I read.

There are no other readers, in my mind, that compare on the market to what the Libra offers me. If you're looking for a good reader with buttons for a price that won't make you feel guilty, the Libra is an amazing product and I highly recommend it.

Amazing reader that is worth every penny

I've owned a kobo glow. A kobo Aura one. I've also used Kindle devices.this is by far the best one I've had yet. The screens a little smaller than my Aura one. But it's a much easier reader to hold one-handed. The other devices were little more complicated to hold one-handed. This one is also lighter and has the page turning capability buttons plus the ability to use touchscreen. It's a lot more responsive than my aura one when I go to type things in with the keyboard it works far superior. It also was easier to set up and seems to work well with kobo books Walmart books and overdrive. I highly recommend this device over any Kindle. It's reasonably priced. It came in perfect shape and Walmart shipped it in a very fast manner by FedEx. It was nice to have it right on time when they said it would be here. Order this device and you'll be happy with it.

Outstanding device

This Ereader is just as good as Kindle Oasis if not better!
You have the luxury of reading library books besides Kobo/Walmart books which I might add is a huge selection and affordable and a lot of free ones.
It is easy to hold and lightweight and I enjoy using the physical turn buttons and also like the page orientation that enable left handers to use.
The cool light is very bright and can easily be adjusted and the warm light for night reading can be set automatically to time to turn on.
You can save $80 and have no regrets.

Affordable

I bought the Kobo Libra H2O. Build quality is super nice. Saw lots of reviews comment about being made of plastic. I actually love the material and how small it is for a 7 inch eReader.  Feels great in my hand and better balanced and easier to hold than any Kindle that I have tried (including the Oasis similar model). Love the backlight candlelight color capability.   Screen is nicely responsive including typing on the virtual keyboard. Setup was easy.  Exactly what I was looking/hoping for.

Nice.  This is the Kobo to get.

Incredible battery life and a wonderful little product.  This is my second. It's a great way to not use Amazon and to use your own epub files without any special tools.  Simply drag and drop the files to the device (attached via USB).  Use with Libby for library stuff, it's a slam dunk.  Not too expensive and excellent "paper" quality.  It's hard to not recommend.

Dyslexics like me will be happy to know that the OpenDyslexic font is preinstalled so you can read easily.

Fabulous

This is a lovely e-reader and met my expectations. There is virtually no documentation, so you need to figure out how to get around in the device. As many online reviews have stated, the evenness of the illumination is not perfect, with a noticeable difference along the button edge. It's not bad and after a few days I no longer noticed it. The device is comfortable to use with one hand and a good size. I didn't want to be drawn in to the Amazon ecosystem, so this was my choice over a Kindle. As a 7" device, it's larger than the lesser priced 6" Paperwhite and it's an alternative to the very costly 7" Kindle Oasis. It's not as quick as I'd like in terms of navigation, but I think it's a good value overall. The light temperature color adjustment is a great feature for those trying to avoid blue light at night. I also like the white hardware version as an alternative to so many of my black electronics. Software is available if you search online to convert your books if you have a library of other formats. So, consider this model if you are inclined to learn to do that and want an upgrade from a smaller device (or want to free yourself from Amazon).

A Daily Delight - love the Kobo Libra

This is my 2nd Kobo ereader, having upgraded from an older Aura that I got wet. Overall it's a strong upgrade, with some rough edges that I find disappointing.

PROS
Everything I've grown to love about the Kobo is still true. In particular, I love how easy it is to access books at my local library via Overdrive, and I love love love the Pocket integration for saving and reading long articles and blog posts. The pocket integration alone keeps me hooked on the Kobo platform.

Coming from the smaller device, I thought the Libra might be too big. It turns out I really like having the side bezel to grip onto. I do think the bezels around the screen could be reduced, but overall I strongly prefer this form factor.

I had no idea what a big deal it is to have physical buttons. It hugely enhances the reading experience, and I'll never buy another ereader without buttons! 

The screen is top notch. In particular, I'm a big fan of the backlight. I wish it had a lower minimum setting, but I really like the temperature shifting it does at night.

It's great that it is waterproof. Hopefully that means I won't ruin this one.

CONS
The device is quite slow and sluggish at times. Page turns are fast enough (which is what really matters), but several basic functions are just crazy slow. For example, it takes almost 5 seconds for it to respond when I press the sleep button to wake it up or put it to sleep. I often find myself accidentally tapping things because it takes so long to respond to an initial tap. For a premium-priced product like this, that is just unacceptable. Overall, the Libra feels considerably slower than a 7 year old Kindle I have.

Compared to my Aura, I've also noticed a lot of new bugs. I'm not sure if this is because it is a newer device or what, but again it feels unacceptable for a premium priced ereader to be so rough around the edges. Pocket integration in particular has some really glaring issues. I'm hopeful that this will improve, as my Aura got regular firmware updates that fixed most of the issues I encountered.

Fantastic ereader slightly marred by bugs

I specifically purchased the Kobo Libra for the heavily advertised integrated Overdrive feature. Yes, you can easily read books borrowed on Overdrive, but the main features of the Overdrive app and the true utility of the library are not available. You cannot browse by subject, you cannot see what is currently available in the library, you cannot access your Overdrive wishlist. You can only search by author or title. Also, if you are reading on a different device, Kobo Libra doesn't update you to the current page (as other devices do). If you are using Overdrive, you will need to browse, create and manage wishlists, and generate holds on android or apple device. In my opinion, the benefit of this device over my iPad is that I can read at the beach - expensive for that function.

Be Aware - Overdrive function is highly limited
