Application method : dry puff/brush/damp sponge.

PROS :
- light-as-air,
- super silky to the touch,
- truly matte (not the slightest hint of glow or shimmer),
- does not come off or crease during its wear time (or during the blotting process),
- no oxidizing during the day (after the initial darkenig),
- fragrance-free and smell-free,
- improved shade selection (there is still some work to be done here).
- elegant sleek (though bulky) black compact with a clear round window that show the actual powder color.

CONS :
- doesn't control shine that well (but is as fresh as just applied after paper blotting),
- darkens upon initial contact with moisture or oil (but doesn't darken further),
- very powdery (be gentle while picking it otherwise you'll end up with powder everywhere in the bathroom),
- no refill.

COMMENTS :
First I'd like to comment that I hate when manufacturers change their formula without mentioning it on the packaging, thus letting the consumers think they buy the same product while it's actually something completely different, it's totally dishonest. I'd like the manufacturers to remember that they live thanks to consumers money.

In the case of this powder, there's nothing in common between the old and the new formula and I have to admit this is really an improvement (unlike the Colorstay liquid foundations).

New "talc-based" formula :
Talc, Zinc Stearate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Polyethylene, Phenyl Trimethicone, Nylon-12, Kaolin, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Ethylhexylglycerin, Methicone, Lecithin, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Silica, Phenoxyethanol +/- (CI 77491/CI 77492/CI 77499/Iron Oxides, CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide)

The old mica-based formula was not a good product, irritating, shiny, no shine control and required a lot more work than usual to look acceptable. The new/current talc-based formula is absolutely stunning !

While the old formula was wax-like in the pan, hard to pick up and needed strong buffing to look great, the new formula is light-as-air and blends like a dream. Beware for this powder has a very soft, very silky but VERY powdery texture. It's so easy to pick up that I barely dab my brush into the powder to get the amount I need (don't swirl the brush, you'll end up in an opaque powder fog).

As usual, the shade 820 Light is a good match, ever-so-slightly too dark (good for summer if you don't want to switch between foundation shades), to my pale skin with yellow undertones (I used to wear Colorstay Liquid for oily skin before its bad reformulation back in 2013). It slightly darkens as soon as it sucks moisture (like most powders), either from sebum or setting spray, but neither darkens further throughout the day nor oxidizes to a orange shade, it really stays true-to-tone all day long. It's unfortunately too dark for winter (and the lighter shade is too pink so I'll give up on this powder during winter).

I also use the shade 880 Translucent which is now ever-so-slightly whitening upon application but becomes truly translucent as soon as it's loaded with moisture (or setting spray). I admit I'd prefer such a sheer shade to be yellow-based (this one has only the faintest beigy-pink undertone).

This is a VERY matte powder : no shine, no glow, no shimmer. It's long lasting, non-drying, non-irritating and has a average oil-control (shine peeks through at regular speed, but blotting papers fix that, the powder does not comes off or crease). It has a sheer-to-light coverage so don't rely on it to cover blemishes (it's not a powder foundation) but it does what it's meant to : setting foundation and toning down shine.

I don't like the compact : on the one hand the round window allows you to see the actual color of the powder upon buying, and the storing compartment for the puff (underneath the powder) allows the mirror to stay clean and the puff not to stay on the powder (which is better sanitary-wise). On the other hand it's bulkier than usual and it's exasperating to pick-up powder then raise the compact to reach the mirror then lower it to pick-up more powder then raise it again etc.

The velvet puff itself is unusually good quality (it reminds me of the puffs in my asian powders) and its black color allows to see the slightest amount of powder you've picked up. I personnally prefer using a brush or my own puff, or a damp sponge to layer more powder on my oily nose (this way the result is less cakey).

It's fragrance-free, smell-free, and free of synthetic sunscreen.

I completely agree with another reviewer : a refill would be a great idea (less expensive so more budget-friendly, and less plastic used so more nature-friendly).

Absolutely amazing for me! This is the miracle makeup I've searched for! The coverage under my eyes is unlike anything I've ever tried before! I don't think I even need foundation or coverup under my eyes anymore! I'm 57' and I have dark circles and other makeup always makes me look cakey. This is so smooth and sheer and I look so much younger too! Plus it evens out my complexion superbly! Please keep this on the market forever!

Look no further, bravo Revlon! This is my go too to be my best self! Whatever this stuff is, it is my foundation of youth, haha!

Gives a good finish on shiny areas if needed.  It's also nice that there is a separate compartment to store the applicator.

A nice light touch

I had to find a good alternative to MAC and came across this gem! I just wish I had started using it sooner! Not only is the quality great but it's at least half the cost of the product I'd been using for so many years. A win-win.

Such a great powder.

I have been using this pressed powder for at least a year.  No matter what the weather is like  this matt powder always looks fresh and natural.  I have fair skin. When the season changes to warm and I am getting more sun I choose a darker shade to suit my skin tone. One of the main reasons I use this powder is to use it like a base to cover and smooth out any imperfections or color variations.  This product never lets me down !

I love this powder.  It does exactly what it should do, even out skin tone and reduce shine.  However, the hinge on the compact breaks within a week every time I buy it.  I use it that way anyway, but I have to add tape to hold the hinge together.  I have always placed the pad back in its compartment for storage between uses.  I am careful not to stress the hinge because I know it's a weak point, but it breaks soon after I start using it.  Please improve this problem.  I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it.

Great powder, compact hinge breaks within a week

I first got the colorstay powder almost four years ago in the shade Caramel and I was completely hooked. It blended effortlessly with my skin and foundation but since the review of the shades, it's been so difficult getting my color for the powder. I believe the shades on the site are misleading and do not account for skin undertones at all. I recently got the medium shade (840) but it looks nothing like what is on the site and looks more light (in terms of visual representation)

Powder is good but the shades are misrepresented

I'm glad Revlon decided to add darker shades to this powder. Let me start off by saying that the texture is super fine because Revlon jet-mills their powders. I love that this powder is top notch for the price. My problem is that the newer shades from Cappuccino on down turn much darker and ashen when you apply it. :( I love, love, love this powder but back to the drawing board with the darkest shades.
