[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been wearing Russell basic cotton shorts for years. Doing everything from workouts, working in the yard, sleeping, camping & hiking, etc. However, this recent pair that I received had the stitching out of a section of the waist band (see photo).  This is the first time I've ever seen this happen in the more that 20 pairs that I've owned. Based on my past experience I'm assuming this is an outlier and I won't let it effect this review, but it needs to be mentioned. (I just ran a stitch to repair them and expect to have this pair for another 5 years)

What I got was not what was advertised, so why the 5-star rating? These shorts were said to be 100% cotton, but only the Navy color pair was - not the Oxford or Black Heather - they were blended. However, these shorts are priced right, and they are comfortable and fit well. The size guide gave accurate guidance. And when approached with a complaint, Russell offered to make good with either a partial refund or 100% cotton shorts in another style. They also said they would be correcting their web site. It took a while to resolve, but in today's environment that is totally acceptable.

Wrong shorts but five stars???

Bought these because they are listed as 100% Cotton. They are a 50/50 Cotton poly blend. They're fine. I've kept them. But be aware that this listing is inaccurate.

My husband & I have worn these cotton shorts for years they are great,  comfortable  & work great to work in the yard for working in the yard & running to the store. The fabric was  thinner than in the past a big disappointment. But still will  purchase them.
Please bring the other fabric back.

I bought pork 14 pairs of the same brand from the same vendor back in 2017 they were great but wore out.
I purchased the same number about a month ago when they arrived I noticed they were using a very cheap waistband material that does not hold up well after several washes

Poor quality waistband

The piece of cloth folded over to cover the elastic was poorly fastened by a single very fine thread which was unraveled so the cloth unfolded and exposed the elastic.  Plus a long continuous thread like a spiderweb all over.

Falling apart when delivered.

I have been wearing Russell Athletic cotton shorts to the gym for years and have always worn the Large size, with fitted great. Therefore I ordered Large again. The shorts that were received, though tagged as Large, were much too big for me. Apparently, they were mislabelled or their sizing was changed. Sadly, the shorts went back to Russell. Maybe I'll try the Mediums next time.

Too big

I ordered the basic jersey cotton shorts in size large. What I received are enormous. Maybe "large" these days is for obese men with 50 inch waists, but I'm 34 to 36 and anything else  I have from other brands marked "large" fit perfectly. Luckily, I only intend to use these for lounging around the house and sleepwear so the gross oversize won't be seen in public. I guess the up side is there's plenty of airy space for the gonads.

Russell Athletic Ain't What it Used to Be

These are basic sweat shorts branded Russell but made by Fruit of the Loom which now owns Russell.  They are not as soft as previous ones used to be, the cotton is scratchy and not as soft as before and the waistband is not as comfortable.  These are way oveerpriced for the quality you get. Very disappointed!
