I bought these shoes for lighter hiking shoe and have loved them. Able to keep my feet dry while hiking on wet muddy trail and have very good grip on slick rocks. If hiking in dry climates, breathability might be an issue since these are GTX so I switch to my other pair of Salomoms

Great outdoor shoe

I understand everyone's feet are different but have found these shoes to be the most comfortable pair I have worn. I have a medium sized foot base. The gortex seems to hold its waterproof abilities during the life of the shoe. Have worn these in temps up to 80 degrees and though a little warmer than my non gortex salomons they are not unbearably warm. Traction and stability are more than I could ask for in a shoe worn for everyday use. Would recommend these to anyone who likes to push their shoes to off the road areas.

Solid shoe

Been looking to replace my current Solomans Ive had for years! Thought Id try similar ones but with Goretex. Fit and feel are still great! I love my Solomans for year 'round wear! This pair though I found to be a little more "chunky" on my feet especially around the ankle. Im chalking it up to the extra layer of Goretex they probably had to use, so Im hoping after they break in a few months they'll feel better in that aspect. Plus I really wanted something to keep my feet dry in rain and snow.

I have always been pleased with the quality of Salomon shoes. They typically last me for a few years before they start to wear out. However, these shoes did not hold up well to light use. After about a year of wearing these shoes casually, they started to fall apart.  First I noticed my socks were wet after walking through a wet lawn, then I noticed a small crack forming on the side of the shoe material. A few weeks later the sole started to detach from the body of the shoe. It's unfortunate since there is still a ton of life left in them, but between the sole detaching and getting wet feet, they are heading to the garbage before too long.

Great Hiking Shoe but They didn't last.

I owned the X Ultra 3 for about 18 months and took it on about four long-distance treks (total distance of about 500 miles) in fairly rugged conditions. The X Ultra 3 did not stand up to the test. The biggest issue was the treading on the soles. They smoothed out at around mile 250, which made the hiking much more tiring on the feet. 
In comparison, the X Ultra 2 lasted me twice as long and I only threw them out because the smell became unbearable (treads still generally in tact). Please go back to the X Ultra 2 prototype!

The X Ultra line have been my go-to for many years, unfortunately that is no longer the case after my latest pair. Straight out of the box I noticed some subtle differences, the fit is narrower, they are stiffer than before and they do not grip on slick surfaces what so ever. After a year, the tread is worn off and there are holes in the side fabric where the shoe flexes. Disappointing considering I paid more than ever for this pair. The colour was also much lighter than advertised.

Price up, quality down

I'm a 185 pound middle aged male who has been wearing the Ultra 3 Gore-Tex shoe as my primary daily shoe for more than 10 years. I love the fit of these shoes the waterproofing, their light weight and the fact that the Gore-tex fabric doesn't allow seeds to get lodged in the shoe while hiking which is as huge concern in that as an ecologist my work involves managing native habitats and the control of invasive weed species. The quality of the construction of this shoe has continued to decline for the most part. What I've experienced: The lowest lace fasteners tend to rip out (which seems to have gotten a bit better than earlier versions) the soles separate from the shoe on the inside a lot sooner than past versions which destroys the waterproofing, and the sole  breaks down towards the arch making it uncomfortable to walk. In the past I'd get roughly 1 1/2 years of primary use out of a pair of shoes. Now I'm lucky if a pair of shoes lasts 12 months. I've purchased two pairs in a little over two years and need to buy another pair. Now I'm considering whether I should be looking for a different shoe brand with a better quality build. My advice to the Company: build a more durable version of this shoe call it your rugged version and raise the price if need be, so you can meet the needs of those of us who value this shoes overall design.

Declining quality in construction

I purchased these in May 2020 - after 5 months use at about 1.5 hours daily the rubberized area where the uppers join the lowers is cracking and peeling, joint to the soles is opening up and they are leaking. Used to be a great shoe, but now very cheaply made.

Cheaply Made

I wore them only about 5 months for hiking in the ravine mostly on the gravel,  rocks and very little on asphalt. I am 70 years old and 175 lb. Usually. I hike about 5km 5 times a week. For heavy hiking I am using 4 year old GTX4. During winter I am using winter 7 years winter Salomon  boots.
It looks like there was used substandard rubber for soles that worn after few months. 
I completely lost trust in you product. Regrettable, I will switch to other brand. Please refund my money.

Prematurely worn rubber GTX3

To potential buyers of this shoe: This is a very comfortable, sturdy shoe that you will not regret buying or wearing. But...don't expect them to last...the quality of this shoe line has declined over the last few years. To Salomon: PLEASE improve the quality of this shoe back to what it started at. Stop using cheaper materials, stop using thinner rubber toe stops, stop using cheap labor. You have increased the price of this shoe over time and the quality has gone down. The only reason I am willing to pay this much for a shoe is for the DURABILITY. Right now, buyers are not getting their money's worth out of this shoe.
