I love the salt oak collection - this is a nice sturdy piece that looks more expensive than it is.

A few notes for when putting it together: the moldings on the top and bottom are nearly impossible to get screws into with a standard screwdriver, even with the predrilled holes (the holes are not as deep as they need to be). Don't use a power drill; this type of wood can't handle that level of force. But DO buy yourself an electric screwdriver. It will make your life soooo much easier. Just be sure to use a light hand so you don't strip the screws.

Second tip: make sure when assembling, you have enough room to flip it from side to side without having to drag it to it's standing position. You should literally be able to roll it from one side to the other. If you try to drag it, particularly on carpet, it will fall apart. It doesn't matter how well you tighten those cams, they just don't hold it together through the dragging.

It looks great finished- overall, I'm very happy with the purchase!

a cinch to assemble, numbered parts, and a page of #d pieces in instruction book. Not many pieces either. These bookcases (3) DELIGHT me and we have ordered a 4th one. (We have lots of books and these cases look like you're in the library! They're made well, not of flimsy material.
I'll think twice about Sauder from now on!

It's tall, spacious, practical, and a great sophisticated addition to our home office.
It's not very deep, just enough for one row of items. It seems very sturdy but I cannot comment on durability as it hasn't been in use for long. I am more impressed them with previous bookcases.
My only complaints are one steel dowel piece was missing it screwing portion -- luckily it was just for the top molding to attach and not a weight bearing portion but still inconvenient and a pain that when you are making it and a piece is misshapen and affect the whole structure. The notecard tabs were missing also.

GREAT bookcase

My husband and I bought the Salt Oak Desk and we found this bookcase to coordinate back. We loved the size and all the storage it offered. It looks expensive like the ones you see at the furniture stores. It comes in 1 box and my husband put it together in an hour. It has made a great addition in our office.

Great bookcase that coordinates back with desk!

We bought 2 of these bookcases for our office and I love the color and that they are heavy! Assembly was no joke though took 2 hours for the first one and an hour and a half for the second....

Very Pretty

I have been waiting over a week with parts all over the floor, waiting for a replacement part that was damaged when it arrived. So far, the instructions for assembly are unclear and the assembly process has been trial and error. Some parts are marked clearly. Some are not. For example: Some boards are marked with a printed sticker on the face of the board. Others have an ink stamp on the non-veneer edge of the board which is hard to see because of the wood texture.

The parts feel sturdy and I believe it will be a good value once it is in use. It is very heavy and not easily handled by one person. Some stages of assembly also require a second person or a single person with four arms, two of which are very long.
Sauder seems to have more than one quality product. This line of Barrister products seems better than most of their furniture.

Bookcase arrived damaged

Had a tough time deciding between this unit and a similar bookcase that cost $1000. Glad I saved my money, this bookcase is actually pretty nice for $179. Came with a few dents and scratches in the finish, most of which are not in noticeable places. Went together easily, but be careful with the top and bottom moldings as it takes patience to match up the mitered corners. If you want to place heavy items on the shelves, beware that the load limit per cubby is 25 lbs. and that nothing should be placed on the top of the unit (according to the assembly instructions). Instructions also warned that the back of the unit (basically a large sheet of cardboard) must be nailed on or the shelves could collapse. So, don't buy this unit if you want to place stuff on the very top or like a see-through-to-the-wall look because these shelves can't be used that way safely.

Nice for the price

I purchased four bookcases to replace the cheap ones I have had for years. These look good, and they are MUCH better than what we had. They are very sturdy, are made well, and the finish is lovely. As expected, a couple of the pieces were chipped, but only one chip shows where I will need to patch it somehow. The only thing that bothers me about these shelves is that the top pieces do not sit well together. There are three top pieces, and the edges where they meet together are angled at 45º. When they're put together, you can get them just right, but after they sit overnight, the edges settle in and show the seam between them. This is a small issue that I think I can mask, but overall, the shelves are great!

sturdy, look great, one minor issue

I did not want to spend a fortune on a bookshelf and this was exactly what I was looking for. It's not your high end solid wood shelving but for the money it works.

It meets our needs and looks nice.

The catalogue said it was wood; it was NOT wood, but a wood byproduct, not much more than sheets of paper compressed and glued together.

Two of the main pieces were broken in half. Had to return to W-M for refund.

Went to another company for another bookcase.
