Seagate has been my most favorite for many years. I prefer storing my own writing, art, and photography separately on my Seagate.  I worked tech a long time. I have had another smaller Seagate for years but I need the BIG Seagate now! I LOVE SEAGATE!!!!

Good overall

I'm a Network Engineer and I just bought this Seagate 5TB Backup Plus portable drive from Walmart, and it's honestly one of the best purchases I've made in a while.
The build quality feels solid, the transfer speeds are fast over USB 3.0, and 5 terabytes gives me plenty of space for backups and storage. It's compact, reliable, and the price was really good.
I've used many external drives over the years, and this one is definitely a winner. Highly recommend it — whether you're a professional or just need reliable storage at home.

Excellent 5TB Drive - Fast, Reliable.

Had a bit of an issue at first.  Hard drive was locking me out of accessing it.  Worked after unplugging it and plugging it back in.  Happened a couple other times after.  Seagate is pretty trusted, so I'm sure it's more of an issue with my PC.  Either way, it's working great for me now!

Seagate is still best!

Seagate Backup Plus 5TB is a digital lifesaver for me. I have a massive file library. Having 5TB of storage in such a compact, sleek metal drive that fits right in my pocket is incredibly convenient. It works perfectly across both Windows and Linux right out of the box, and the USB 3.0 speeds make backing up heavy photo and video collections quick and painless. It runs quietly, stays cool, and handles daily backups reliably without needing an extra power cord. For the price and capacity, it is one of the best portable storage solutions I have available.

It's a good portable hard drive with lots of room. The only downside is that since it has a physical hard drive instead of a solid state drive it's slower on the data transfer and it takes a little while to spin up if it hasn't been used in a few hours. All of that is to be expected with a regular physical hard drive, though, so it's perfectly normal for what it is. Hopefully the next generation of these that they build will use a solid state drive instead of a conventional hard drive.That would push this easily into five star territory.

5TB Portable Hard Drive Review

First time I used the drive pc restarted from update while backing up files and drive locked up had to format it to get it to work again.  Cost wise it is a good value.  But I use this as a back up for files on my laptop ,desktop and work laptop but don't trust that it won't lock up again and lose everything.

My external hard drive is clearly not a new one it is all scratched up fresh out of the box by the way it is also stating that it keeps getting unplugged unproperly and all of the cords are plugged in that is insane because I never unplugged it once I was playing the game something is wrong and I definitely need my refund that device is definitely not worth 120 dollars at all doesn't even work the way it should . The back cover is loose and making noise and there are scratches all over it .

Used sold a brand new price

I am very familiar with external hard drives.  To begin with every time you use this one it asks if you want to copy the metadata.  Not a big deal, but the big deal is that it asks this for EVERY FILE.  If you click "yes" to all, that only applies until you decide to move something else to it.

So, then I decided I'll just reformat the drive.  That wasn't easy.  It is finally reformatted now, but won't show up in file management.  If you assign it a drive letter, it will show up.  But it will never find the available drive slot and show up that way.

I purchased two of these.  They won't both work.  Even after reformatting it says there is a conflict between the two.

I have probably 15 other externals and have never had this issue.  Just don't buy this drive and save yourself a headache.
