I was surprised at the quality . I generally dont like hardrives,  but 8TB was to temping to pass up as a backup . I did a full low level format when I got it .... which took like 3-4 days . The speed is not impressive of course , but the capacity is so large i can litterally make folders on it that sais " SSD 3" . This is purely for backup purposes . This drive wont be used once it makes it past the multi day writing process . Dont expect performance,  expect capacity for cheap . 8TB is quite a lot for a bit over 100$

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Product was competively priced $15 less than even Amazon.  Having the item, and it being less than 5 miles from my office made it very convenient!  for which I had purchased this item from Amazon, not only I would have paid more...I would have had to wait an additional 3-4 days.

Been a loyal Seagate external hard drive user for 20  years. They make a great product. They're very easy to use and they're priced great. In all my years I have never had a problem with them. I love that they're light weight and very portable. They fit in my laptop cases very easily. They offer a variety of storage amounts to fit your needs and  priced range.

Seagate External Hard Drives Are Great

I have an old HP pavilion.   it does what i need it to do but it doesn't have the storage capacity.  this drive is AWESOME.   it needs to have a plug but overall, I'm very pleased.   it recognized it right away.  came pre formatted.   no issues AT ALL.   it's quiet.   it's perfect!!!!!

Seagate is one of the most dependable HDD's on the market.  I  use them for multiple back-ups - I DO NOT save anything I download on the hard drive.  Of course, I make additional back-ups on external HDD's as well.  One time,  something happened and the Windows crashed and had to be reloaded.  It is a good thing everything was saved on the external hard drives.  Are SSD' better?  It depends.......NOT for long time storage.  If they are not used for some time, they may not work.  External HDD's can hold storage for 30 or 40 years with no problems.  Just DON'T drop them!   SDD's can be dropped on the floor and be all right and HDD's would be ruined.  But to back-up and store external HDD's away for a long time is no problem.

I wanted this for offline photo backup particularly  so my review is biased in regards of my particular use.
I like that I could format it to exFAT for my phone photo backup. The product is great at what it says it is. I wish there was a USB-C port so I could connect my phone directly.  In today's day and age, this is kind of a "dumb" device.  So definitely fits a good use case for backup offline storage as long as you have a middle man device like a PC. But for just extra storage on a desktop or laptop, this would be more than sufficient. I bought on sale at 8 TB at $180 04/2026. More than satisfied with my purchase so far.

I wanted to use this drive to perform some surgical backups of the system, versus an entire system backup.  I had hoped some of the current tools that I had licensed would achieve what I need, they did not.  So, I tried to use the Seagate backup software tool included.  It is similarly a lame tool.  Their product description does not tell you that.  The drive itself is very good.  Easy to install, performs well.  If you are looking for something that will backup your Appdata folder or a set of folders, for example, you will have to license another product.  Something like Acronis.  The Seagate backup will not allow you to backup the areas of your system that you want to.  It wants to search for file types in the user folder.  
I spent over an hour with the support team only to find out that the product does not backup "system files".  They consider the Appdata folder system files, when many of the tools store their user data in that location.
The Seagate tool is really only looking for Documents, Videos, Pictures, etc. to backup.

Great Drive, Terrible Backup Software Included

don't know if this is a scam or what. bought 4 of them and all 4 had different issues. i am a programmer so i know how to set these up. i was trying to build a server and this was the best price for these 8tb drives internal or external.  2 of them would not work at all and the other 2 were 1.5tb and 2tb. all 4 looked like they had different hard drives internally looking through the side vents. i had to return them all and order drives from somewhere else. they were completely sealed when i boughtthem, so it looks like they came from the factory. but i doubt seagate would sell them like that.

The first one I received didn't work. The second one didn't either. While I'm sure I could have done all kinds of things that may or may not have gotten these drives to function, that's not what I paid for. Yes, the price was a lot less than the competitors', but nothing is cheap if it doesn't work. They are supposed to be plug and play - not plug and then figure out how to make it play. No wonder they were cheap.

Broken isn't worth less expensive

i connected the harddrive to my laptop and it did not automatically open. The drive wasn't showing in My PC. i found a video that showed how to find a drive. i was able to see the drive in disk management, but it said that it only had 475 GB. I paid for 8TB. I returned the drive and bought one by WD. 

The reviewers are right this time about the drive being bad.
