I recently tried the matpe beans from sitara brand. I am really happy with the quality. Beans are clean, uniform, and cook evenly.' Which saves time during prep. When cooked they have a rich, earthy flavor and a creamy texture that works beautifully in traditional dals. I especially liked that they didnt require excessive soaking to soften well.

These work well for various dal and curry dishes.  I had best results by pre-cooking and then rinsing them before putting them into the final recipe (makes it less pasty or starchy).  The price was very good compared to other brands.

They taste very similar to other black beans but they didn't plump up when re hydrated.  I would purchase this product again.
